Always a pleasure, eagerly following.

I'm not sure I agree with divepen's observation as i think the paragraphs flowed seamlessly, but then I'm not a master of third person narration like you guys. The main issue here is the very very few misused words e.g carrier(career), sore(sour) etc.

Was captivated from the very beginning, ride on!

Big Jay ensured he didn’t get drunk because he intended to meet with his boss before retiring for the night. So while Ahmed, Ade and Ken drank to their fill, he took only two bottles and left before them.

Everything was set, Ade would leave for Wamba in the morning and they would join him later in the evening. The day was a huge success. He had finally gotten Ageive’s location and he couldn’t wait to tell his boss the good news.

Was this really good news? Did Ageive still have the papers he had stolen from the safe? Well, apart from the papers which were of more importance to his boss, Big Jay also wanted to make the betrayer suffered for messing up his life two years ago.

One hour after he had left the bar at Kubua, he was in nameless guest inn in Maitama. This was his usual meeting spot with his boss.
He entered the building and headed straight to a pre-rented room.

Apart from serving as a meeting point for him and Big jay, the boss also used this room for his illicit activities.
His name was Chief Desmond Otum.

Chief Otum was believed to be the owner of the renowned Chrisotum group of companies which parented such sub companies as, Christotum foods, makers of Chris Biscuits, Christ noodles, Chris juice and a whole lots of packaged food products. Other sub companies include Chrisotum contractors, Chrisotum Shopping Mall and Chrisotum homes.

Only Desmond and his late brother’s Lawyer knew the company wasn’t his, at least not yet. All he needed was to present the company papers which Big Jay’s fake friends stole from the safe.

He walked into the room and Big Jay quickly stood up as a sign of respect. This was a man that had been taking care of his bills for the past five years just for taking care of loosed ends for him. Big Jay respected him above every human in the world.

“I got your text,” Desmond said. “But, I am still pessimistic about everything. I somehow feel we are chasing shadows. I feel like a drowning man holding unto a loosened root as my last hope for survival.” Desmond was always frank about his feelings, except he was meant to deceive his audience.

Big Jay always got depressed whenever his boss robbed his pessimism on his face. It was another way of blaming him for the situation. He had insisted on coming back to Abuja and looking for Ageive; he wanted to do anything to redeem his image and finding Ageive and those papers was all that mattered. He had no choice but to continue hoping that Ageive hadn’t disposed the papers. The hope was slim, two years was not a short period to be careful with some meaningless papers.

His boss had reluctantly given him a second chance.

“The others said he took the papers and I know Ageive sir… he does not easily do away with materials in his…”

“You don’t know him! That was why he messed you up and left you lying like a fool along with the dead man.” Desmond cut in.
Apart from basking in the riches of his late brother’s wealth for more than twenty years now, Desmond was also a notorious fellow. He was a mean man and could do anything to achieve his heart desire. He was also dubious and unkind; dealing with bad people like Big Jay had always been his thing even before he became the caretaker of his brother’s company.

Caretaker, that was what he was and this state of affair had never given him peace of mind.

“Well, I am glad you made a huge success today,” Desmond continued. He knew Big Jay was equal to any task given to him; he just hadn’t been able to get over the disappointment he had gotten from him two years ago “I didn’t think you would find Ageive so soon. So you will be going to Wamba tomorrow?”

“Yes,” Jay quickly replied, “we will need to rent a decent place at the water fall close by so that we can look like tourists. We don’t need anyone to have a reason to suspect us even after we finish with Ageive. We wouldn’t want the law to be notified before we are through. So I would like us to appear decent and important.”

Desmond nodded his head. This was why he liked Big Jay. “I will put enough money in your account tomorrow. Just be careful not to make any mistakes that would jeopardize everything.”

“I will be careful.”

“I hope the boys working with you are cooperating?”

“They are, I am also ensuring they are checked. Trust me, there will be no more mistakes,” Big Jay replied. “You will definitely get feedback from me next tomorrow.”

“Nice, I will keep my fingers crossed.” He made to open the door, “You will get the money first thing tomorrow. Good luck.” He opened the door and walked away.

Big Jay fell back on his seat; at least the boss had acknowledged his success.

Re: Extreme Encounter by frank317: 10:43pm On Jun 20, 2015
That night, Tamina lay on her old bed; her twin siblings had gone to bed early because they had an early dinner. She was perturbed, she was alone. No parents, no guardian and worst still, no lover.

Life had not been generally fair to her. After taking away her parents, it had brought to her way, the wrong kind of men. Giving love a trial had not brought about a positive result; two broken serious relationships, much harassment from the wrong guys and wrong judgmental call on the seemingly nice guys. At the end she decided she was better off being alone for now. She was not yet in the right frame of mind to find for herself a suitable guy.

She was also thinking of how tomorrow would be like. Where would she get money to fend for her beloved younger ones, who would come to her rescue?

Somewhere in the compound she could here noise coming from Uncle Ageive’s room. She wondered why he was at home by this time.
Usually the drunk of an uncle would be at one of the local bars drinking away his life with his fake friends. He seemed to be shuffling his properties. Was he planning to travel?

Then she found herself wishing he was a better uncle, perhaps rich, responsible and caring. Uncle Ageive was more of a useless uncle than a nuisance in the family.

All she needed now was to think harder; solution must come, somehow she knew they would not die in hunger but she didn’t know how this would be possible.

It was past eight pm and she was not feeling sleepy yet. Well, she had the whole night to come up with a solution. Yet, she almost felt hopeless.

Then she heard a knock on her door. She listened, perhaps it wasn’t a knock.

The knock sounded again.

She stood up and walked closer to the door. “Who is that,” she asked.

“It’s me.”

The person needn’t say his name, it was Uncle Ageive.

Tamina opened the door wondering what he wanted. He had not come knocking on her door since he returned. In fact, they hardly talked to each other.

He was actually looking sober when she opened the door and faced him.

“I want to talk to you.” he quickly said.

She made to come out and join him but he quickly stepped into her room. The light in the room was pale; she had reduced the lantern so low before lying on her bed.

He sat on the bed, “please sit down.”
There was a brown envelope in his hand. Tamina increased the light’s intensity before sitting beside him. “What is the problem uncle,” she asked.

“I have watched you stay out of my way since I returned home. I have also thought it wise to keep out of your way too.” He started, “You see, I am a bad man and you are a good girl. You are also my only brother’s child and I don’t deserve coming around you.”

Tamina began to feel uncomfortable. Why was he talking to her like this?

“I sometimes wish I was a better uncle to you. Looking at you work hard to take care of your little ones actually makes me feel useless.”

Perhaps he was here to give her some money! Tamina thought. Perhaps the envelope in his hand was full of money!

“I will be traveling to Abuja tomorrow and I want you to hold unto this envelope for me. I don’t know how valuable it is but someone out there could be in dire need of it.”

He handed it to her and she reluctantly took it.

“What is inside,” she asked, still hoping it was money.

“The day I took it and found out it wasn’t money I kept it aside because I was too lazy to finish reading it. It didn’t have what I wanted, the beginning didn’t sound like something that would be important to me but I held unto it all the same. Perhaps the people who want it would be disappointed too but I wasn’t sure why they had to kill for it. Or maybe they didn’t know the money they wanted was not there.” He replied.
“Just hold unto it until I come back.”

She handed it back to him, “I don’t think I will hold this for you uncle. Take it along with you wherever you are going. I don’t know where you got this from or the people you took it from, but it is none of my business.” She was angry. Why does he think he could just make her part of his criminal life all of a sudden? Was that his idea of help?

He didn’t collect it but just stared at her, “two years ago, a friend of mine recruited me for an illegal mission in Abuja, we were to rob a house. I was staying with Cousin Johanna then, you might not know him. My mission was to help him unlock a safe once we get into the house. He told me that there were lots of money in the house but the amount he planned to pay us wasn’t enough. You…”

“Uncle… why are you telling me all this?” Tamina cut in. she wasn’t really interested in his criminal activities. Her father had always warned her to keep away from him.

“Seriously I don’t know why I feel the need to talk to you. I… I just want to confess to you my beloved niece, before I leave. Please just listen to me.”

Tamina relaxed a bit.

“You see, I had always involved in petty crimes and found out that if I had to make money I must take a big risk and involve myself in something more than petty. And so I and the other recruited members apart from Big Jay my friend, decided that we would not allow accept to be paid so little for something so risky. Again, we thought if we had to rob such a prominent fellow and Big Jay was talking about a safe, there must be so much money involved. Now we didn’t know who sent Big Jay but we thought if we could do away with Big Jay, no one would be able to trace us. We were three in number.

We found our way into the man’s compound, thanks to Big Jay’s brutality; the guards were no match for him. We broke into the man’s house and Big Jay coerced him to show us where the safe was. He did and Big Jay killed him in cold blood. With the knowledge of where the safe was, we decided to do away with Big Jay. He was a killer and we even made ourselves believe we were doing the society a favour by eliminating him.”

By now, Tamina was interested in the story. Her uncle had been involved with dangerous people, she thought.

“I stabbed him at the back with my knife when he was not suspecting and he fell to the floor. We left him there to open the safe only to find this envelope in there. You can imagine how frustrated we were. We left the scene feeling very disappointed and thinking Big Jay was dead. But in the news the next day, there was no mention of his body. In fact, investigations revealed his presence in the crime scene and the man who was supposed to be dead was wanted for murder of Mr.West Ike. One of the securities who survived painted a good picture of him. But we were thinking, if Big Jay was alive, then we were also in trouble. We left town and I came down here; I also decided to hold unto these papers. It’s more like someone’s confession or life history than anything useful.”

“Why are you giving it to me, why not just throw it away?” Tamina asked.

“I just got a call this morning that Johanna was murdered last night. I am not sure but I just have a feeling that Big Jay was involved.”

“How can you think it is Big Jay’s doing, it’s been two years since the incident?” Tamina asked.

“Yes it’s been two years, but remember he was a wanted man. Perhaps he left the Capital City or went underground when the heat was on. Two years is enough time for him the heat to cool off. The fact is that I have never felt secured knowing that Big Jay was still alive. That was why I asked Johanna to move out of where we used to live together. I guess he got careless after more than a year and Big Jay didn’t surface.”

Tamina remained silent and stared at the envelope in her hand. She decided she would go through it in the morning. That meant she had decided to hold unto it.

“I will leave for Abuja tomorrow. I want to know what is going on, I want to find out if Big Jay is really involved. This is why I want you to hold unto the envelope, you can read through it and see if you can make sense of it.”

Tamina felt like it was a stranger giving her instructions. She felt she was working with a bad stranger.

“I don’t know if Big Jay or whoever sent him knew that there was really no money in that safe or not. Perhaps they actually wanted the papers in this envelope and lied to us that it was money. But I think it’s time I find out what is happening. I will tell you the next thing to do with it once I get the information I want. I just want to know if Big Jay is actually looking for me or those papers and this will determine what I will do with the envelope.”

“Why didn’t you just read what is in the envelope? For two years you have had it and you didn’t read it?” She asked, obviously perplexed.
Ageive sighed, “I was so disappointed that I didn’t find money in that safe. Of what use are pieces of papers in an envelope to me when I can do nothing with them? I didn’t want the owners to find me and I wasn’t even sure they would go to such extent of killing an important man for just these papers.”

“But they could be very important documents. Perhaps someone’s will or important…”

“That was why I kept it, but reading the first few lines didn’t feel like something I would be interested in. It wasn’t money so I didn’t bother. Like I said, I was sure that even if I read it, it wouldn’t be of any importance to me”

Tamina felt that that was a stupid decision to make. But she thought, perhaps, he was afraid of what he might find inside. Maybe he didn’t want to know what he actually denied who ever sent Big Jay of having. Or maybe he was just certain that they were useless to him and reading it would not get him anywhere. Well, she was going to read it and see what was inside.

When he left, she slept off without giving her financial issue a second thought.

Isa was sure that Rebecca was in James’s room and this thought had not allowed him concentrate on anything all evening. He had tried watching the television but couldn’t; he just wished he had company. The evening was a frustrating one, being all alone and thinking about nothing but Rebecca. Thoughts of her and that good for nothing boy had depressed him and he had forgotten to initiate their normal evening hangout at the bar close to the school. He had actually wanted to be alone but right now, it wasn’t doing him any good.

Isa was sure Rebecca must be making love to James at the moment. How could she not like him? What did she see in James? He imagined James caressing her cute ass and touching those golden boobs at the moment. He imagined her lying on his chest all through the night. He was going to go crazy this night, he was sure.

Why should she reject him? Why was she making his life a living hell? Well, he must never allow her love another. This was the only way he would live a normal life in this school.

He decided he would do something drastic to James. This time around he would ensure the fool lives to regret ever making Rebecca his girl.

While Isa was thinking of ways to hurt him, James was in his bathroom trying to have his bath. If not for Rebecca’s persuasion, he would have not bothered to bath for the day.

When he came out of the bathroom, he noticed that his mobile phone on his dressing table was blinking; he had a message. He walked straight to it and picked it up. It was a message from his fake parents. He read it out loud for Rebecca who was lying in the bed to hear, “Please can you come around in the morning? We have something important to show you.” He dropped the phone. “These guys should just leave me the hell alone.”

“Don’t tell me you don’t intend to go.” Rebecca said.

“I will think about that,” he replied and sat on the bed.

She stood up and rubbed his back, “You are not thinking of anything. Tomorrow morning, I will go home with you and together we will hear or see whatever your beloved parents want to show you.”

He remained silent, even as he wondered what it was they had for him. Maybe they were going to finally tell him something about his real parents.
