Happy Ramadan to my Muslim fellows,

Since the past week, I've gone through a very stressful phase, all in the name of preparing the land for my watermelon cultivation.

On Monday 16th June 2015, I was able to finish working, tilling and preparing my land with farm implements such as hoe, shovel, rake and knife.

On the same day, I was able to go buy seeds from Agritropic, a seed company in Nigeria, all thanks to Soloxam.

Image shows the picture of the seeds I bought. There are 23 seeds per gram inside and it is a 5 gram seed pack. Therefore 23x5=115 seeds in a 5g pack. The name of this variety is F1 Koloss.

I decided to plant the seeds gotten from the agric company differently and then seeds I had formerly been able to dry few days back.

Picture of land for cultivating them.

The small space with three ridges are for the seeds bought.

Re: Cultivating Watermelon - A Blog by Neduzze5(m): 12:02am On Jun 18, 2015
The other with just one big ridge is for the little seeds I saved and dried from the watermelon fruit myself.

Wanna compare and contrast which would do better.

Picture is just before planting.

How many did you plant per hole and what's the space in between? Where's your farm location ? Where is the company Agritropic ? I wish you successful planting .

Thank you first of all for your good wishes.

I planted 3 seeds per hole.
I gave 2 feet space per hole.
My farm is located in Rivers state.
The Agritropic branch that I got it from is located at Oil Mill bus stop, Rivers State.
You can get Agritropic in Ibadan.
Soloxam is a nairalander whom you can also get it from.

I planted it deep in the ground. I feel that is the reason but I will check it tomorrow to see how far.

Yeah... I'm still a novice ooh. I dug a spot where I planted the watermelon only to find out that it had germinated and was looking for a way to come out.

Perhaps, in the next two days, it would be out.

Today makes it 9 days since planting and yet no germination.

So I will be replanting today.

Lesson 1: Do not plant too deep in the soil.

Alright, after the initial setback I encountered after planting the seeds too deep in the soil, I am proud to inform you that my second set of watermelon seeds have sprouted.

I equally did a nursery for them and they seem to do better in a nursery first before finally moving to the permanent site.

Pictures will come in later!
