RobinHez: I sure was expecting this to be the first, now let us go on it.The conspiracy theorist suggest that the moon has no atmosphere therefore the flag shouldnt move. . they speculate it either the footage was shot in a secluded desert or in a studio. . we will take it one after the other. . . 1)Desert theory: If the footages were taken in a desert, we know the sand particles in a desert are relatively small and dusty. . . A gush of wind on a desert capable of fluttering a flag that low to the ground sure must move dust particles. . then why are they no dust particles moving, why is only the flag moving? A gush of wind capable of moving a flag couldnt move dust? i think not. 2) The studio theory: some theorist assert the photos were shot in a simulating studio. . Let us examine how plausible this should be. . a studio enclosed for this purpose sure must have been indoor. . and we all know flags dont flutter inside our houses unless we leave the doors open and a flush of wind rushes in, or we leave the fan on, it would take a high speed fan on a close range to make a fan flutter in a room or studio, remember studios are more enclosed without large windows, just necessary doors. So NASA bearing in mind that the moon had no atmosphere, did you think they would purposely leave the fan ON and place it at close range at the flag? or maybe they left the doors open for winds powerful enough to flutter a flag to rush in? If you watch the pic you posted closely, you would see that the upper side of the flag is held up by a horizontal metal stick thats why its straight so as to maintain an uptight flag in the low gravity moon environment, that is the only way to spread a flag in a non-atmospheric environment. If you watch the footage you would see the flag started fluttering, more like starting moving after the astronauts touched it while sticking the metal rod into the ground. https://www.wallpapermaven.com/i/space/7/Moon-Flag-d.jpg see Armstrong pulling down the flag horizontal bar? Nasa's reply to the movement of the flag was: They twisted the pole into the Lunar dust and in doing so they caused the flag to 'wobble'. Since there is no atmospheric friction on the moon, and since there is a low gravitational field, the wobble of the flag persisted for much longer than it would on Earth. It appears as if it is blowing in the wind but in reality it has retained movement momentum from the action of twisting it into the ground. This is similar when you shake an X-ray photo in your room, it wobbles. . that was the effect the shakes (while installing the flag) had on it and remember the low gravity and atmospheric friction of the moon makes the momentum more enduring than it would on earth... Or were they expecting a flag to be crisp like an iron sheet when obviously someone touched it? picture of a the settled flag, notice it still has creases. Note again that Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, a satellite launched to orbit the moon has taken images of the land sites of the 9 achieved manned moon missions. . You can see pictures here https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lunar_Reconnaissance_Orbiter Point out more loops bro |

kodeya:I promised I would explain it. And here I am. ![]() Time dilation is one of the phenomena observed in relativistic physics developed by Henri poincare and Albert Einstein. So, far, it cannot be explained to a layman. I can only describe it to you. You see, time and space are fused together. As in, they are part of each other. And as such, what ever you do to space MUST affect time. You cannot move in space without moving in time! And you cannot move in time without moving in space . . . or can you? There is a postulate of special relativity that states that the faster you move, the slower time passes for you . . . to external observers. Now, that is kind of annoying. Because, what I mean by external observers is, even if you were to move at the speed of of light, you wouldn't know it unless you saw something that wasn't. It is called "inertial frame" I believe. But, I digress. As I was saying, it is simply observed that the faster you move RELATIVE to something, the slower time runs for you. Therefore, if you were to get on a bike and ride at 300km/h, you would age . . . roughly about 0.000009 times less than your friend that stayed at home. Now, there is also another point here. Which I believe is what happened in interstellar. I didn't watch the movie though. ![]() Gravity bends space. ![]() So, we know that space and time is fused, and I said earlier, if you affect space, you affect time. This means by curving space, you are also curving time. Which means instead of it to run equally in all places, it runs slower where you are. Faster where you are not. ![]() Now, imagine if you are a little child. The space you bend is almost insignificant. Same if you were an adult. so, your time runs fast still. But imagine you were a giant planet! Time would run about 6000 nano seconds slower for you! And of course, every one that lived on you.But wait . . . . what if you were a black hole? If your mass was HUMONGOUS! Time would run so slow for you that we could probably measure it in years. ![]() And that is all about what happened in interstellar. 1. The faster you move in space, the slower you move in time. 2. The heavier you are, the more you bend space. 3. The more you bend space, the more you slow time. But, neither you, nor anybody else, knows what is going on. Because your clocks will continue to run perfectly, and light will move normally, unless, you were to observe each other. Or you were to leave the black hole and and go to earth. You will suddenly discover that time ran faster for them. While it didn't for you. Despite the fact that it was normal-looking for both of you. ![]() Cheers! ![]() |

| Re: The Sciences Discussion Thread. by Nobody: 10:12pm On Jun 22, 2015 |
johnydon22:This is the first time I'm quoting like this. Seems elaborate. ![]() Actually, I think we can surpass that height. In fact, we can surpass seven foot. The height at which the young's modulus of the human bones fail to provide proper support starts at about eight feet. Two hundred thousand years ago . . . The smartest person in the world was probably the one who discovered fire. He must have felt really proud of himself. ![]() Given enough time, I believe our offsprings can come to think of us as extremely primitive and really dumb. My reason being natural evolution and the fact that science is now trying ti merge man with machine. So, in the future, a child would have a brain, hooked up to a complex super computer that would solve all his problems and upload the answers to his brain., it is possible, is it not? I don't buy the 150 restriction there is no restriction by anything that determines the number of years humans should live. . its a biological phenomena to which every biological organism has its life span expectancy. . Many modern humans have exceeded this 150years life span like Algerian: Mubarak Rahmani Messe (1873- 2014) i also think then life spans of humans will improve in the near future like you postulated.what? He lived that long? Well, I wouldn't want to live forever either. But I would like to live very long, just to see new tech and stuff. I know the Russian guy. He should be quick abeg. Sprinting ability in animals develop due to need for survival basically hunting, humans now are one of the animals that do not depend on basic hunting for survival, we are among the organisms that don't necessarily need to run for food but we are the only organisms to just run for fun (sports) so i doubt if our sprinting abilities will improve. . ancient homo sapiens are known to have ran longer distance which has decreased now due to the reduction in our dependency on this ability and more mechanized means of transportation which we expect to improve , so i postulate our running ability will decrease rather than improve with time.here too, I was referring to binding man and machine. With exoskeletons and/or implants. I do believe we can do it. ![]() Looks will improve all right but this will be on a more distributed basis so am sure humans has gone pass that stage of killing or fighting to get a mate. . so this improvement in looks and features will be a general improvementI agree with this, ![]() They can get to a stage where may be classified to be very different to what we are now but this may take millions of years to get to that drastic stage of evolutionary trend... If humans don't stop and have a rethink about what we are doing to this planet we live in, our species and many others wouldn't survive that longOf course. In fact, in future, they may be able to make sounds our current vocal system cannot make. And yes, we need to think about the planet. Although, we might eventually colonize other planets. I think the movie, star wars is a very accurate depiction of how the future is moist likely to be. Have you watched it? Evolution is a slow process or at least with what we think we know, so its likely to take a duration of millions of years. . . And yes accelerating this can be possible through Genetic engineeringexactly what I had in mind. Genetic engineering. Also, prosthetics. We can only try small naAbi nah ![]() I can see kingtom up there somewhere . . . baba, I hail oh, ![]() Cheers! |

RobinHez: Another good question ![]() First we must note the working mechanisms of a camera. . . Images are formed as a result of light taking it to the lens right and the eyes uses this same mechanism. . Now the moon and the earth deal with light differently. . . you sure do not the moon reflects the light from the sun. . . the amount of sun light that hits the moon at a constant basics are same with the amount of sunlight that hits earth at a bright sunny day. The bright light of the sun at this space zone within the earth and the moon is very bright enough that the dim spot lights from the stars to reach the camera, so practically the lights from these dim stars required to be carried to the camera lens to gain an imagery are not transported due to the stronger light rays within the region. . only a powerful ultra violet camera can archive this feat on the surface of the moon. the moon being a non-luminous object but reflects the light of the sun and appear luminous. . . If you have ever notice even on earth stars seem to be more visible on a heavy dark night than one in fairly lit city. Other space pictures taken within this region with 70mm cameras also recorded no stars too. I will post a HD picture of shuttle taken pictures of ISS and the earth and an astronaut on a space walk, try and find a star lets see. . and also an ultra violet picture with long exposure taken by the apollo 16 manned moon craft showed some stars and the constellation was detailed and labelled showing them to be correct. So you see visibility of the stars in space pictures not just the moon is as a result of light exposure from both the sun and weak star lights. . below are the pictures of the ISS and Astronaut on a space walk. it will be in HD cus i have them on my phone. . see if you can find stars on them....the last picture will be a long exposure ultra violet picture taken by apollo16 from the moon stars detailed. note the magnifications of the lights that even the earth appear to be as bright as the moon when viewed from here

Teempakguy:Fire guy thing made me agree with this, but one problem, if it becomes computerized asin computer beings responsible for uploading this knowledge, it will no longer be a biological phenomena, the smartness will then be as a result of artificial upload of knowledge by a machine into the brain what? He lived that long?Hehehehe am not sure if this can be done, life and death negates each other and are dependent for meaning, without death how do we recognize life. . . and again population control will be history, over population and shortage of food and other materials we would probably then need to move some people to other planets. ![]() here too, I was referring to binding man and machine. With exoskeletons and/or implants. I do believe we can do it.With this then it is no longer a biological evolution ![]() I agree with this, ![]() Of course. In fact, in future, they may be able to make sounds our current vocal system cannot make. And yes, we need to think about the planet. Although, we might eventually colonize other planets. I think the movie, star wars is a very accurate depiction of how the future is moist likely to be. Have you watched it?Yeah probably need to see it again. . but have heard of plans to colonized Mars. .Mission MarOne. .i follow them on twitter too, they hope to send an unmanned craft to Mars by 2019 and a Manned mission by 2025. . google it up, i think i once opened a thread on that sometime ago here https://www.nairaland.com/2201801/possibilities-mars-colonization we can discuss that too exactly what I had in mind. Genetic engineering. Also, prosthetics.Right on spot Abi nahHahahahaha ![]() |

Scarcity of foods and human population wouldn't be much of a problem in years to come as many countries are trying to limit the number of children one is allowed to give birth to. Also, with time, there will be plants and seeds that can germinate over a ahort time;thereby creating food for humans. |

RobinHez:This is a funny question by the theorists. . If you watch the real video of the moon landing here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMINSD7MmT4&feature=youtube_gdata_player, you will see that the camera that filmed Armstrong was at the side and close. . . who was supposed to ask that question knowing Apollo16 had cameras on it... THE VIDEO OF ARMSTRONG CLIMBING DOWN WAS TAKEN BY A CAMERA SITUATED AT THE SIDE OF THE CRAFT APOLLO 16Leme post a picture of the real footage of armstrong climbing down the ladder and also the apollo 16 space craft..

johnkay1:The truth is that we are the cause of our own predicaments. In recent years, the human lifestyle has been so ridiculous, from addiction to tobacco, eating foods with lots of chemical preservatives, establishing industries that emit carcinogenic substances, to using devices that emit radiations. All these put together makes us more vulnerable to cancer, cos these carcinogenic substances in d atmosphere can change our genetic makeup. Its advised we take lots of fruits and reduce intake of preserved can foods. Talking about diabetes, nutrition first comes to mind too....we take 2much of starchy foods giving our insulin 2much work load cos there'll b 2much glucose to b converted to glycogen.....and when d insulin fails to keep up with d pace, we become diabetic cos it leaves us wit so much glucose in our system. Although some ppl naturally have inadequate insulin production.....(Dose ones no even need toomuch starchy food to get diabetes) Hope dis helped. |
