Abdulsalami panel rejects Saraki as Senate
President.

Abuja - The Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar-led National Peace Committee has rejected the outcome of the election in the Senate, which produced Senator Bukola Saraki as the Senate President, reports The Nation.

The group described the election, which also produced Ike Ekweremadu as the Deputy Senate President, as unacceptable.

The committee in a statement signed by its convener,  Bishop Hassan Mathew Kukah., condemned the apparent desperation for power exhibited by some political actors.

The group noted that what transpired during the inauguration of the 8th Senate neither dignified the upper chamber of the parliament nor represents the yearning and aspiration of Nigerians.

The committee played a pivotal role in ensuring a peaceful 2015 general elections.

The group facilitated a peace pact between former President Goodluck Jonathan and his then challenger President Muhammadu Buhari to douse the tension ahead of the general election.

(*). Why should Senator Bukola Saraki be declared senate president with 57 votes, while 51 other senators were
disenfranchised. That the management of the National Assembly knew that 109 Senators were being
expected on the day of inauguration. Why did they not wait for the others arrival before rushing to conduct

Whatever they think remains their opinion and it is at best advisory.
They should just allow sleeping dogs lie Abeg. Most people are tired of the legislative stories and want to see drastic changes.

Some loss are unacceptable. God has delivered us from d pdp era of irregularities. No more of that.
If Saraki, Ekweremadu, David Mark and Atiku wants to test their political might, let them follow due process as Dogara did and not through theft.
Nigerians deserve and demand total sanity.

Re: Abdusalami Panel Rejects Saraki As Senate President by Rexology: 4:44am On Jun 23, 2015
Did they actually say that?
Compare this:
PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION:
Buhari scored 15, 000, 000 votes (approximately) to emerge the President of over 170million Nigerians.
68, 000, 000(approximately) registered voters, obtain the percentage: 15, 000, 000÷68, 000, 000×100=22% (approximately). Let's take it a bit further, 15, 000, 000÷170, 000, 000×100=9% (approximately)
Can 22% represent the opinion and aspirations of 68millon registered voters? Or
Can 9% represent the opinion and aspirations of 170million Nigerians?

SENATE PRESIDENCY ELECTION:
Total No of Senators=109
Total votes to Saraki=57
The percentage=57÷109×100=52%
Can 52% represent the opinion and aspiration of the 109 Senators?
Please be the judge in this case and subsequently advice the committee purportedly led by Abdulsalami.

Due process was followed they(saraki group) should not be blamed for the actions of senators(lawan group) that deemed a meeting with PMB is more important than their own election...

BTW saraki is a card carrying member of APC I see no reason why APC can't deal with their internal issues internally...

National Peace Committee is not APC. It is a non-political advisory group which is concerned about coexistence and unity of the country. My personal opinion is that Saraki should be allowed to lead the National Assembly, since he has been elected by his colleagues.

My personal opinion is that the post was cooked up by the OP. I strongly doubt that the Peace Committee with members like Dangote, Abdulsalami, Bishop Onaikan, etc would descend so low to meddle in Partisan politics. Taking sides make you loose your credibility as a peace maker.

Allowing sleeping dog lie is what got us here. Politicians must begin to act beyond what's Constitutionally right to what's morally right. That is how statemen are built.
There is not much people can do Constitutionally but we must all condemned what is wrong moral grounds
Let the whole Nigeria condemn what's wrong and see if our politicians won't align

Left to you, your analysis should qualify you for a global statistical award abi? Did you consider that based on your premises, those 57 are not even qualified to be in the chamber as they were elected by 9% of Nigerian or 22% of registered voters....remember you can't build something on nothing.

Each Senator was elected by thier senatorial zone ONLY, therefore their individual percentage of their individual scores should be compared with the popution of their individual zones and with that of the total registered voters in their individual zone ONLY.
What am saying in essence is, he that comes to equity MUST come with clean hands. APC or the Abdusalami panel does not have that MORAL right to say that 51 Senators were disenfranchised, whereas, 57senator legally voted and supported Saraki's emergence as the SENATE President.
I rest my case
