When a mass of 25g is hung from a spring, the total legth of the spring is 15cm. When a mass of 40g is hung from the spring its total length becomes 18cm. Calculate the original length of the spring.

Is the answer 10?

25/40 = 15-e/18-e

40(15-e) = 25(18-e)

600 - 40e = 450 - 25e

15e=150

E=10cm

Lol... You're not dumb in Jesus name.

The mass or force is directly proportional to the extension or length produced. When the spring was free it's original length was e. When the 25g mass was hung on it, the length became 15cm(e1). Same for the 2nd mass. If it's the 'e' that's confusing you, you can change it to 'L'.. I just used random alphabets
