House Of Rep Leadership Crisis: Speaker, Yakubu Dogara Adjourns Plenary by Sanchez01(op): 1:26pm On Jun 25, 2015
Trouble brewed in the House of Representatives on Thursday, June 25 over Leadership positions in the House.

The plenary session was halted after the House was divided over whom would emerge as for the leadership positions.

Members of the House went agog just when the Speaker was about to call the names of the leaders to fill in the positions in the House.

Attempts were made to cart away with the Mace by some members of the House before it was taken into the inner office of the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara.

Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila of Surulere constituency was seen talking with the Speaker as the disorderly house continued with chants and arguments from all sides.

A sided group of the House chanted the name of the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara to show their support while a seemingly different group chanted "on party supremacy we stand".

The fracas lasted for almost an hour before sanity was brought back alive and the House was reverted to the meeting of the day.

The obviously disappointed Speaker of the House of rep was re-ushered in with an applause as he spoke;

"We must disagree to agree but we must do so in the interest of the House and Nigerians," the Speaker paused as applause rented the air. The Speaker continued;

"We are very fortunate; let me remind us that we are a very fortunate class. We were chosen out of over 170 million people in Nigeria. We should be grateful to our constituency. We have promised change and Nigerians expect us to talk about what affects them most, security, job creation, poverty alleviation among other things. As long as this house is divided, we cannot achieve that. I plead of us as honourable members, as leaders, all hands must be on deck to enable us achieve the desired unity. That is the responsibility we owe. We promise, as leaders to look into what led to this today and resolve this as quickly."

Meanwhile the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, announced the names of Principal officers at the Senate plenary today. Senator Muhammed Ali Ndume was named the Majority Leader while Bala Na'Allah was announced Deputy Majority Leader. Senator Lawan-led faction objected to the announcement of the Senate President.

The Speaker adjourned the meeting to the 21st of July, 2015.

What is wrong with the leadership of the 8th National Assembly?

If Tinubu were to be as greedy as they are he would have been the VP today.

What has the Jagaban of Borgu did to them for him to deserve this nonsense?

If Tinubu did not support the merger where would they have gotten that position, David Mark would have been automatically the President.

Supported. This is what the party is trying to avoid.

The truth here is that the APC faction is 3s; Tinubu's faction, Northern/Atiku's (which is responsible for foiling Tinubu's grand plan at the Red House and HoR and making sure Tinubu is restricted to the South West), and the Saraki group which has its eyes set on 2019.

The Atiku/Northern faction would do anything to limit Tinubu. OBJ is already powerful and another powerhouse from the South West would be the deadliest mistake ever committed.

I like Tinubu but it would be better if he's limited. Too much power would idolize the Tinubu family for life, which is bad for Nigerian politics.
