This wasn't the case in "Better by Far" university.

Anyway, the management of the University and it's Security unit needs the total cooperation of the "academic students" to end and curb that.

In addition to what senR said above, the school should official inform their parents or guardian, next of keen and there should be single web available for all higher institutions (may be created & monitor by either jamb or nuc) in which the name of such students can be pasted. They are half-cut snakes!

The major source of non academic students are from those that did pre degree or diploma awaiting full time regular admission nd those that wrote jamb also awaiting admission batch list, these guys attend normal lectures expecting the senate to release anoda admission list. after 100level dey can't go back home if they are not admitted cos of their brag back home.

Which better by far are you referring to? The Unilorin I graduated from or another one?
Maybe you just attend lectures & focus on the lecturers alone or you're probably in 100level. Some course mates will deceive you until 300l clearance while some, na project go expose dem

They have been in existence from the beginning of time.

They are the most resourceful.

They have all the information about the school except how they can be admitted to the school.

Can you have a non-academic student? Does the word have any meaning or make any sense? A student is an enrolled member of an academic institution (in this case). One is either a student of a school or one is not. Those are imposters, they should be arrested and dealt with appropriately. Prof. should stop confusing us.

That's true. They are the thieves, hooligans and the likes. Many of them take to robbery so that they can "runs" new admission. Some also go into "full-time" Internet fraud. I used to know several of them. Morning, afternoon, evening, night; they are always at home.

In my school those days, the non-academic students are seen only on exam days.
Rotjijatau:
I was listening to the weekend file on NTA yesterday when i came across a news about the rise in the number of non-academic students in Nigerian universities. Prof Ismail Malik of the university of Abuja said in an interview that some non-academic students are people who have been expelled from the school but they stay behind and act like students, stay in School & even attend lectures thereby deceiving their parents that they are still in school and they continue extorting money from their parents. In a similar interview, the dean of student affairs of the Ahmadu Bello University Mr. Caleb Dabis said that non-academic students are those that stay in the school to instigate riot and protest because they have nothing to loose.

Nairalanders, have you ever come across such students beforehuh

Ghost students abound in most government owned institutions.. I've met & lived with some.

Even ladies ain't left out.
Even if not for anything, parents should be pitied for their endeavors, yet some won't find an alternative to education rather keep on deceiving their parents.
Re: Non-academic Students On The Rise In Nigerian Universities- NTA by Shikena(m): 4:59pm On Jun 28, 2015
This has been a problem with Nigerian universities located in urban areas for a very long time. Talk of the likes of UNILAG, UI among a few others. UNILAG especially have always had running battles with this situation but it's very difficult to control. Apart from those who never got admitted into the school's programs who claim to be real students and attend lectures but party like mad in the evenings, you also have those who were actually rusticated not only from the school but from various schools across the country. Then you have the runs girls as the high class tend to prefer and pay high premium for those who are supposedly university girls. A lot of uninitiated have been repeatedly fooled into thinking that they 'carried' a UNILAG or UI babe.

U notice him walzing into the classroom 15 minutes past lecture time, 20leaves exercise book in hand, pen in the other, and nodding to a blasting pop music playing on his mp3 via his headset. Never comes to classes early and always the first to leave, Never serious with his tests and assignments, but can perform incredibly well under pressure! They're the backbenchers in class and would rather be seen at Jives, Departmental/Faculty nights and Grace manor! The only time you see them running around with borrowed lecture notes is to photocopy them because exam timetable was out! Now that's a NAS!!!! Present n ex-Lions and Lionesses 'll be familiar with that phrase :d
