By the way, I'm not a professional poet, I never did literature in school, just more of a natural thing, I will appreciate a link to the Gabriel Okara's works

You can also suggest other masters of the game, I'll check them out

Thanks once again

Here is my favourite.... Go through and give feedback.

The last monkey
Borne of hunger and anarchy
Crude and rude and blue and brute
Is long gone to a land as fair and cute.

Good job op.

You handed us the money bails
Like the wilderness morning quails
For such freebies we verily crave
Though from such we couldn't save

We felt so high with special seeds
Indifferent to voices that calls it weed
Though such are the illegal breed
A special drill it made us feel

Hail Ceaser, the thrilling teaser
Nail the M*therf*cking stingy teachers
For giving endless reasons to be sober
In such seasons we'd rather visit strippers

We crucified those sons of Issachar
Sent afar the daughters of Deborah
Neither times nor direction matters
So we chased them beyond our borders

Thy shiny teeth as revealed in broad smiles
That sparkling golden glitters from several miles
The sweetest words from your oratory rivers long as Nile
Crafty accomplices of your deceitful styles

Like a spontaneous lightening, short and gone
Couldn't spell Jack till the season passed on
Like a de-feathered bird, you asked for our guns
From your pearly gates we were constantly shunned

Then comes the seasons again when you consider us kings
You brought us in, once more to drink
At your most revered table again we sing
To this merry moment you offer we cringe!

Then your position as King you regained
Throughout your reign, your promises you delayed
Your empty promises on the streets we relayed
Wretched we, not clueless as to why, though we were pained

Ilufemiloye, the master at deceit is here again to campaign
Little did he know this time the game has changed
The enlightened, last monkey in Idanre is no longer in chains
Smart ass ape, has full senses regained

No longer shall we chant your name while matchet-wielding
For now we've resorted to a much better living
The "Ipanle" in us with rage we got flinging
No more the war songs, songs of peace we're now singing

********************************************

This poem is dedicated to the repented ballot snatchers
To those who no longer cherish the life lived as gangsters

Though you once fought a war where you lost while the politicians gained
Haunted by shadows that lived in your past
A little decision to Change the man In the mirror, will set you free from the ugly scars

I love Y'all

Interesting, Someone said the monkeys there now ride rolls royce phantom, can you justify that please? Lol

On a serious note, Idanre, though a quiet, peaceful town, it is of remarkable importance for its wonderful hills, the terrain, and the jungle life

When I was young, whenever we wanted to prove we're smart to a suspected con-activity from someone, we say "Ko is Obo mo ni idanre"
