Why Do Nigerians Rate Marriage So Highly? by Antoinne: 7:55pm On Jun 29, 2015
Can someone explain to me this sense of entitlement Nigerian women feel when they are married? What's the basis for this? Is there anything so special about marriage? Isn't it unfortunate that Nigerians see marriage as a crowning achievement in a man's life? Doesn't this say something about not paying attention to other more rewarding aspects of life?

A mature Man or Lady who is not married is termed irresponsible in Nigeria.

Yet 90% of marriages break up.

I don't know what's with them and marriage sh1t. undecided

Marriage is compulsory but not a do or die affair. But it is more fulfillin to get married n reproduce.
The bible does not say otherwise either, but its only concern abt reproductn n most especially, ur sexual urge. I wonder how u intend to cope sexually n alone.

Marriage makes u committed, discipline n responsible.

Other more fulfilling things like taking a trip to the Himalayas, ascending mount Everest; studying in a discipline so well to know every single bit about it; becoming a professional in something; inventing a product; breaking barriers in one's field. Why don't Nigerians place more emphasis on this? Why is it so usual to see a woman whose only fulfillment is getting married?

The ignorant can lay claim to this at this moment. So I'll grant you Antoinne wouldn't have existed. Then again, it wouldn't have stopped another sane, rational person born of a woman from asking this question.

In later ages we should expect science to be able to create humans from mere cells, and not from heterosexual reproduction.

Nobody is asking anyone to marry neither has anyone suggested marriage is by force. If you do not value marriage, by all means stay single; no need belittling the wonderful institution called marriage. We know it is not a matter of life or death, but I love my husband and kids and we are all one big family!

There's nothing wrong with it. The human race survives through marriage, procreation and upbringing so it's vital.

In a perfect world marriage is the solution to a lot of social problems hence the persistence of social pressure for marriage in our society's. I also believe in the need for family structure. The only problem is that we pressurise ourselves as woman as soon as we hit our twenties.

Fat women console themselves with - i feel comfortable in my body.
Unmarried women with- marriage is not the ultimate.

Marriage is the ultimate achievement in life.
God made woman for man and said we should go into the world and procreate.

God did not say - go in the world and get a degree.

All the degrees you have and all the jobs are merely - toiling with hands to eat.
Yet even the bird's and the bees do not toil and they eat.
