but today June 30, atomic clocks would read 23:59:59, then 23:59:60, before switching over to Wednesday with 00:00:00.

giving us an extra second.

"For school"
We were told that a year has 365¹/₄ days. We take a year as 365 days and add up the remaining ¹/₄ day(s) for four years and we get the extra 1 day in a leap year .

Modify: I will believe this if they mean that a year has 365¹/₄ days and some sort micro seconds, then this "micro second(s)" is then added up every three years to produce a second. grin

Can you believe this has been implemented since 1972, and I'm just hearing of it.
