Military Checkpoints Return In Abia by Yem0350: 6:47pm On Jul 02, 2015
As the dust stirred by the presidential order directing the removal of military checkpoints across the country is yet to settle, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has said military checkpoints would return to the state.

Ikpeazu said he had secured the approval of the military high command for the restoration of military roadblocks in the state.

A press statement released on Thursday in Umuahia by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Godwin Adindu, said the decision was to ensure kidnappers and other criminals did not take undue advantage of the exit of the military to resume their nefarious activities in the state.

Abia was, for the better parts of 2009 and 2011, besieged by kidnappers until they were flushed out by solders.

According to the statement, Ikpeazu had consulted with President Muhammadu Buhari, and the General Officer Commanding the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army Enugu on the issue.

It said the military checkpoints would soon return in all designated points in the state, both in the villages and cities.

Ikpeazu, who frowned at the incidents of insecurity witnessed in the state in the last couple of weeks, vowed to fight insecurity with vigour.

He said his administration had taken drastic measures to curtail cases of insecurity and ensure total maintenance of law and order in the state.

Ikpeazu re-emphasised that security of lives and property, as well as maintenance of law and order were top priorities of his administration.

He warned criminal elements to steer clear from the shores of the state or the long arms of the law would catch up with them.

Ikpeazu assured workers of various construction firms involved in the massive construction works going on in Aba of their maximum security.

The Governor is doing the right thing. There are some states that should permanently have a military Presence.

This state is one.

so the Daura President didn't deem it necessary to consult the governors of the 36 states in country before making such a pronouncement. he has indirectly been over ruled on this matter from different quarters again and again, proving it that he has dementia

on a more serious note, is like buhari dont have anything special to offer dis country, even though am not a security expert but with my little i tink buhari should have knw d security status of every state b4 ordering d removal millitary checkpoint. and also wit all d rant apc made against jonathan over bokoharam i tink bokoharam should have been as part of nigeria past history by now, but here we are and over 100 have already be killed in maiduguri by bokoharam today alone.

Good news.

Which sane leader in Somalia, Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen, etc. can dare remove military checkpoints from their country's roads?

Police are never trained in any country to confront terrorists on the road.

State Governors, liaise with the military and police to take control of security in your states; that's how it is supposed to be in a true federal system of government.

It is supprising that people are praising the governor. What is the work of police? GEJ just introduced the military check points to cover up his security lapses. How many criminals have the military arrested at their check points ? They were just there to aid hawkers, extort, inconvinence and endanger peoples lives as we saw in their Karu, Abuja check point . Unknown to them operating check points that always result in chaotic hold up of cars and all manners of trucks can be utilized by evil people to cause mayhem . God forbid. Whose life are they then protecting? Their coduct depicts how not to keep security .
