Negotiation with extremists is never possible. In the case of BH it is also very true. Now the question is if you are to negotiate with the group, on what terms will they agree to put down their arms? They have reiterated severally that they want an islamized state under their control. This is enough reason to discard any iota of notions about amnesty or dialogues. Moreover reasonable minds know terrorism is not about the insurgents really wanting anything... its about world politics and selling guns... And using willing tools to achieve sinister aims by some powers that be... But I think our septuagenarian president has no real idea of this... or maybe he does and is part of the grand scheme? Time will tell...

What is there to negotiate about? Money?

Four major wrong steps for Buhari already -

Negotiating with Boko Haram
Dismantling military check points
Letting his APC burn while sitting on the fence
No cabinet one month after swearing in

What's next? Did he plan for governance at all or just victory at the polls?

It is very easy to say, "Do not negotiate with terrorists". However, when the enemy you're fighting against is so strong, you may decide to negotiate, rather than continue in the war, which even though you even though win, may turn out to be a "Pyrrhic Victory" (a victory in which the losses are more than the gain).

Personally, I feel that the number of lives that boko haram terrorists have claimed, should automatically disqualify them from any form of amnesty or negotiations; but when you consider the lives that MAY YET BE LOST, you realise that it may be better to negotiate. As a safety officer, I was taught that "the most efficient way to perform a task, is the safest way"

Dialogue is ALWAYS an option. smiley

The caption of the article should have been '3 Borno residents reaction to FG's plan to negotiate...'

I wonder when our newspapers will become professional. Couldnt they have gotten more opinions and then find people with opposing views so readers can compare? Thats how its done by serious media houses. angry

Meanwhile, I thought APC said they will put an end to Boko Haram immediately. Wish wan b negoshiashun again? angry

If Buhari is indeed the man behind Boko Haram, then this negotiation thing is a way to pay dem Boko boys for a job well done because negotiation involves payment.

Let us ask President Buhari if he had secret meeting with his boko haram people. And they have assured him that negotiations and amnesty will end the killing and maiming of innocent souls.
If that is their agreements he can carry on. But posterity will judge him

My surprise in this whole thing is that they always find more people to kill. The north truly has more people cos this killings has been going on for years and they haven't finished . They are like sand ! Either that or they are playing with the numbers of people killed every time . Make una no vex for me but the thing worries me .

They thought they can resolve all the Nigeria issue, Jonathan worked mainly with other regions excluding the south west and he failed and now the Altiku and saraki Northern caucus are trying to do the same and the west simply sit down dey look as in Obj's word's; let see how brilliant they are and they can also include other regions outside the south west and at the end it might even be worse than when Jonathan was in power. Them never see anything. Politricks is unfolding, let watch as things unfold.

Force alone cannot solve the problem. The negotiation is necessary.
