Cuturally and in every way the Hausas are more evolved than Eboes definitely at the time of Lugard the Eboes were the most backward and primitive group in Nigeria so any gloating or smugness is misplaced
Well well, what do we have here, so predictable, an Odua slave coming to the defense of his Arewa masters. I always knew that the BOKO ISLAMIC SHARIA REPUBLIC OF AREWA-ODUANISTAN would make for a perfect master-slave country.

Well if your idea of sophistication is living in crowded mud houses with no regard for living space, sanitation or ventilation, and your idea of leadership is a group of self imposed leaders/ conquerers lording it over a subservient and docile populace. Then it's no surprise why you would think that the Igbos who had evolved a superior democracy and mini republics are backward and primitive, even a madman thinks he is the sane one.

You would know that the human mind is warped when enslaving and subjugating autonomous lands in the name of "empire building" is considered advanced.

It could be true to half baked fellows like you that do not understand that our ancient people that existed before Nigeria had their own civilization which they mastered until they were physically and ideologically conquered and their history completely altered.
That statement by Lugard was racially motivated and out of frustration because he couldn't convince these people of their continuous domination over them while propagating their own culture and calling his barbaric.
Go read up please and stop feeling inferior to a people that you were once better than in human qualities.
The man that builds a bomb to kill millions and the man that sharpens a knife only for hunting , who's more barbaric?

It is practically impossible to change the mindset of any child born into ideological servitude. No matter how hard you try to show them their flawed humanity they will never see it .
The fool you quoted forgot to mention that a kingdom from the South South that conquered them in the past couldn't conquer the Igbos in the East despite proximity. The secret is simple , the Igbo man never had a king to bow down to and listen to and those days it was impossible to conquer any kingdom without a sitting king yet the people were organized politically and socially and there was equal representation by family, clan and kinsmen depending on the issue that arises in their ancient society.
Let him continue wallowing in ignorance maybe his great grand children will learn his lessons the bitter way.

Relax man, be civil a bit. All the history and all that we all know it. young man you see, the current state of blacks is it still history making our leaders worthless, corrupt, mismanageful, reckless, nonchalant, cynical?

I'm the least person you going to talk about super-inferior-complex too, forget it was racially uttered, are we not justifying him? The act of xenophobe in SA does it not do justice to it? Youruba-igbo ethno-rift is it not doing justice to it? Hausa-fulani vs middle belts is it not justifying it?

Do you need a seer to see all this? Is lugard still controlling you and me? Blame our leaders for our caveman, crass mentality and under-development, nigeria as a country had the biggest resources after this white heads left.

Bro the key to africa lies in our skin color, all we have to do is seek our inner part to radiate our black beauty rather than looking for shortcut thereby bleaching it.

You are who you are not what they want you to be.

Reduce your dosage of tribalism or else you end in a rehab.

Cause you saw the word "igbo" there you thought they were referring to your ethnicity? Well "igbo" means "bush or forest" in yoruba lingua.

Chai! I respected dis man. But now...
There is nothing wrong with his demand, first it could be seen that the North didn't want to be part of Nigeria and secondly he only demanded for 50 percent North and 50 percent South.

I read D. O. Fagunwa's novel while growing up then but lost it. I had to look for it last year when I was receiving lectures for early African writings in the course African Political Thought. It's good to study history my people because it will elevate u above ethno-religious sentiments.if govt is desirous of ending ethno-religious tensions in d land then d subject History (esp of Nig) should be reintroduced and made compulsory in our schls frm primary to higher institutions. Nice job @op.

By d way, if u want to write biography of ur father, mother etc or history of ur church, mosque, locality, village, town, institutions, schools, clubs, associations etc9 contact me via jibolatoye@yahoo.com, www.facebook.com/gyboler or @jibolaolatoye twitter on

Today they are the ones that have benefited from the Nigerian state in a rather parasitic way. They were good at farming (something they would've used to help the Nigerian state) but abandoned it to fall fully back on federal allocation from oil. Today no Northern state contributes anything to the federation account and their internally generated revenue is the poorest in the country despite the huge allocation that is sank there, I wonder why the hell they weren't allowed to go their way especially after murdering so many innocent people in 1966 and wanted to cut out afterwards. It was the same British and American diplomats that persuaded them to remain, today all we get is terrorism everywhere.

How does someone come to a conclusion on something except through observation? And in the case of Lord Lugard, which groups did he observe the most when it comes to his statements on Black people?
