60% of Nigerians live on a dollar a day. Remember 23% of Nigerians are unemployed and majority are paid minimum wage which 18,000 naira. 2 Likes |

JiggamanGh: How can 60% live on less than a dollar a day? How many people do you know that actually live on that amount? Are you adding the side businesses that many do to top up the salary? Legal or otherwise? Just because some white mans organisation says something why believe if truly what you see yourself does not say that. Even a man selling suya for a living makes more than a dollar a day. There will be some Nigerians that survive on less than a dollar a day but much less than 60%. If you know how much the average Nigerian spends on recharge cards every day you will know that the white mans figure is a lie. 3 Likes 1 Share |

JiggamanGh: Majority of who are paid 18k, do you mean regardless of what they do? Please take a look at www.salaryexplorer.com for average Nigerian wage. To state the minimum wage and suggest that most Nigerians are on that minimum wage is rather unfortunate. |

Ekiseme: $1 a day it's possible for many families. Not by choice but by predicament and the condition our government have subjected the citizens to. The dollar benchmark is calculated per individual not per family. If a dollar is 190 and for a family of 10 for instance, is estimated they'd survive on 190x10 which is 1900naira. Although small the amount should suffice to prepare a pot of soup and eba and noodles for the family in a day if well managed. |

ddami: I said the calculation is based on each individual not by families. 1$ a day is for each person in a family and for a family of 10 it should be 1$x10 which is 2000naira. The report never said or its estimated for a whole family on 1$. 1 Like |

ronald4lif:okay even if its based on each individual the post says:: AVERAGE Nigerian lives on LESS THAN $1, am wondering how much a poor Nigerian lives on |
Re: How Much Does An AVERAGE Nigerian Live On A Day by ronald4lif(m): 12:03am On Jul 10, 2015 |
ddami: An average Nigerian lives way beyond $1 a day. I'd gauge it at $3 a day on average for students but working class could gulp $5 daily or more. My initial comment was only addressing the posture of the person I quoted, not necessarily the topic. 1 Like |

Lets look at the case of Alhaji Abdul Abubakar, a civil servant in the Federal ministry of Works. Alhaji Abubakar resides in Kano state with his 2 wives Aisha and Fatima. He and his wives have 10 children 2 of whom are at university and depend on him fully for support. He has also committed to full supporting 2 of his brothers children who are in boarding school. His elderly mother lives with him and also depends on him. There are two live - in maids in the home who are relatives of his wives. Mr Abubakar brings home N150,000 every month. His two wives both work part time in their family textile shop and bring home N50,000 per month between them. Total household income is N200,000 per month = $1,000 per month =$34 per day Number of individuals in the household is: 18 Therefore the average person in Alhaji Abubakars household lives on $2 per day 1 Like |
