This is just the far I know from a laymans position. He was rich though before that. I am very very sure of that. What I am not sure of is how he made his initial cash. I also know that his emergence coincided with his taste for political power. That was in the 90s. So yes, the hilux contract brought in somee cash, but he was relatively rich before then.
