I'm beginning to think that ' Nigerian Girls' was a serious faux pas by Mode. It is a funny song and we all know he was joking around but did the joke backfire? It was supposed to be a Nigerian take on the Jay Z 'girls,girls, girls' song.

I played the song for my wife, yes, Rapjunkie is married and she liked the song ( It was funny) but she was offended by the overall message. She said she understood what Mode was trying to do but it said nothing positive about any [/b]Nigerian girls and was just steeped in stereotype. She also reminded me that Jay Z's version was much different because  he didn't just point out negative stereotypes in the song.  I had previously read similar comments made by girls on the M.I/Mode9 thread.

Now this got me thinking. . . . . . . . . 

[b]If the girls don't like you then there is no way (generally) you are going to be commercially successful. Simple as!! Most girls seem to point out this particular song of Mode more than any other and they don't care about his lyricism or anything else.

On the MI or Mode thread ( don't ask which, so many these days) the girls seemed to dislike Mode because of that song. If you want to sell commercial units ( not saying Mode does) you need to appeal to the ladies. Lets face it, we all know songs we are forced to listen to and end up liking ( reluctantly) because our ladies  like them.

If there is a massive disapproval of an artist by ladies because of a song he made then I don't think I need to explain what the problems will be.

Do you think it backfired! If it did, there is no point trying to pretend it didn't happen and everybody should just move on. As you can see Funky baby is still upset.  

My main concern is that Mode aint  getting the props he should be getting and i'm trying to work out why.

You have to identify a problem before you can find a solution. Not trying to brew anything but wanted to provoke people into a response.

I agree that acceptance from ladies has a great influence on an artiste's career . . . it's a global thing . . . Pac said he advised Biggie to "rap for the b*****s" when he commenced his career - that it's a sure-fire way to success . . .

Plus it's a 2-way thing - some artistes sing to praise ladies . . . and they make it that way . . . others just clown even whilst dissing 'em and being misogynystic, yet ladies love 'em (Eminem is case study here) . . . I think being controversial, witty and somewhat 'having the ladies in mind' is a trick that always works for any artiste . . . Check the roll call - Eedris' approach-to-the-ladies is crude, that of Shina Peters, etc - crude too . . . on the other hand, MI adopted the be-good-to-the ladies style by doing 'Forever', and the list goes on - can't exhaust that . . .

You can dress it up anyway you like, but all the best rappers need them and have them.  Naeto C may not be the best lyrically, but he's more of the complete package. Same goes for MI. You need a good mix in an album. Something for the heads, the ladies and the clubs. If Mobb Deep can do it. So can Mode. My 2 kobo

I don't think when Mode started this, he intended to alienate girls. If he has, then he needs to do something to fix it. Thats my point.
