Oga, these policies that has encouraged local assembly of automobiles in Nigeria has created jobs for the local market. It would reduce the cost of buying a brand new car thereby encouraging more people to acquire new cars instead of tokunbo cars.

In as much as it hasn't benefit u directly, it has benefited many others.

My brother you are trying to make sense, but you sef u know this policy doesn't make any sense.....

If there was real due process, did you see any massive employment in any of these automotive industries??

This stuff didn't create any job whatsoever my friend..

A good and sane government, however, would do the following:

1) create a policy that will allow all, and I mean ALL government workers to own brand new cars, and pay the money installmentally....

2) create another policy that would make ONLY INNOSON VEHICLES be the official vehicles of top government officials like the president, VP, etc to boost patronage....

3) I'm sure that car may not be up to international standards, there may not be airbags, the suspensions may not be rugged end gh for dirt paths, etc. The government has to put these in check

Now, if the former government had done all these, they would have had votes.....

It is a common misconception to think that locally made goods are just as good as their imported counterpart. In this case, I will pick an imported accord over the naija made one. Here are my reasonings:

Manufacturing standards of where the imported Accord are made are higher and more stringent than the ones here.

The top of the range of the naija made accord will not be able to stand next to say a Yankee or UK spec. Well, they can park next to each other but the imported one will have better options and extras.

The new accord made in naija isn't exactly new accord. Allow me to explain o before una bite my head off. The naija accord is probably based on an existing or older platform. No way Honda will go to the drawing table and design one from scratch for an emerging markets because the cost is probably too much and the locals do not have enough money or purchasing powers to buy it even if Honda were to go ahead and make one.

With regards to emission laws, UK, US et al have one of the stringent requirements around. Over here, there is probably nothing to stop the manufacturer cutting corners. So yes you can have two identical cars but different engines when it comes to emission. Etc.

Abeg make I stop.

Mind you, I am not saying it is a bad thing that Honda is making or assembling cars in naija but let's not fool ourselves and think that it is on the same level as the imported ones. Lol. Them no dey the same level rara at all.
unfortunately you've got it all wrong..you seem to av forgotten that's Honda unlike other automobile companies upholds their quality oath strongly, what am actually getting at is that, before the line off ceremony series of test has been going on,comparism has been made with other accords around the world to make sure they are of the same quality, the Nigeria plant is meant to serve the whole Africa o they dare not ruin their reputation in a whole continent. the factory m.d also mentioned that the model would be on display at the world auto display at Berlin later this year....believe you me they can't take a sub standard product to that conference..

Oga, without the enabling policies, NO Investor would come in. Let's put political sentiments aside and face the reality.

It is the policies that encourage investments both Local and Foreign.
There was nothing enabling about GEJ's policies okay?

When you say someone got all wrong, you could make effort to show wetin person get wrong na brother. It is well known that manufacturers use different components and material in DIFERENT REGIONAL MARKET in their product. Here are a few factual examples, abeg look them up any time. Honda engines in Japan have emission that do not meet the standards of the of UK. If you can be bothered to read, here's a link to back up my statement

http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/car-buyers-guide/cbg_imports.html

Read up heading that says "SafeGuard" and "Grey imports".

It is not that Honda is cutting corner as you post was saying but they make cars for a region based on the laws and economic factors there. We hardly have emission laws in naija or enforce strict rules as to what a car can emit per combustion or something. So why would Honda now spend loads of money or a new and loose market?

This same approach is seen in phones. BlackBerry and Samsung phones for Asia and Africa market are lighter in terms of weight and feels like cost saving materials were used.

Don't get me wrong. The accord will be good for Nigeria road but if I have a choice, I'll pick an imported one any time. Heck, if I have money, I will import my cars from America and Japan for use here in UK and Naija because their cars got better specification than their UK counterparts.

It's a good development that the assembly is now done here for the obvious job creation. That being said, N8m! shocked.

Considering that this car in the US ranges from ~ $22k to $28k (Depending on specs), at an exchange rate of say N200 to $1, we are talking N4.5 to N6m.

I know profit must be made but ... it's just a bit much.
