http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3158012/Foreign-students-banned-working-forced-leave-UK-course-ends.html U.K has just announced plans to force students to leave when their course ends. After spending 6 or 7 million they will send you home with your qualifications. Compared to Canada and Australia them that allow you to work for several years after graduation. Yet some would have you believe that the U.K of 7 years ago is the same now. If you're not a top-tier professional, getting ILR is difficult through normal means, talk less of finding work. People should do research before they just wake up and go anywhere to avoid stories that touch. |

tai2:I disagree with you on the above point. How could you conclude that everybody on the streets is into frauds? This is far from the truth, maybe you had a sheltered upbringing, and you don't really know what it takes to be on the streets. In fact, for you to succeed in life without any support structure(inheritance), you need to be street smart which does not mean you have to be fraudulent. |

Many of you shouting Obodo oyibo is bad, if dey give una American green card una go run commot for Naija. going to Europe or America legitimately is guarantee for good life, that is why people are going for Canadian immigrants visa, America green card, Germany or UK residents visa, if yu have any of this, your life will never remain the same. Nigerians na suffering na smiling we dey do here.Europe is d best if you have the write visa. |

I really can not say, but what i can say is that the pay we had wasn't a living wage either but we made do by sharing room, expenses and sacrificing a lot for better tomorrow. i swell, if i wasn't a US citizen, i would have returned home. our friends that weren't had to suffer and most of them fell into crime to make hands meet and paid dearly for it too. i got your point and i hope you get my too! If only we have social support like loans...because that's the only thing the makes abroad to appear rosy. justwise: |

The O.P. is right on quite a number of points raised. I'd support the O.P. when I'm done with this Architectural Design I'm doing together with other tasks I'm running at the moment. Just so I let y'all know, I never knew how empty one could be even with reasonable amount of dollars you've got while here in this ultra advanced world. O.P., I'd buttress so many points raised by you soon. |

@OP is talking somehow somehow i.e not fully informed.. I have friends who are literally millionaires in US terms and they run their own business.. what you should have pointed out is that Service and Field work pays far better than a desk job while the opposite obtains here. 1: Emeka (not real name) graduated in 2000 from Unilag, won visa lottery - he is a contractor to several military bases in a state in the US. what does he do? service and replace electrical components - i.e change light-bulbs. He has built and sold several Flats in the Lekki I and Chevron areas 2: Iju (not real name) graduated from Medicine (Unilag/Medilag) and is Dr. in the DC area earns well over $200+ annually and is on a paid-research team looking at alternatives to cancer treatment 3: Ade came on a student visa and dropped out of school, got married and had his status changed.. his wife's family own a farm in sheboygan WI.. he is in charge.. Fresh farm products straight to grocery stores and farm markets in at least 3 states outside WI. 4: Mukaila's visit visa expired and since 2008 and was lucky to be eligible for one of Obama's directives on regularization of immigrant status for non-documented folks.. he now owns a pizza restaurant cum African delicacies business.. silently killing it. 5: Offor won visa lottery and is into the dirty business of cleaning up premises of factories (Facilities Management) your guess is as good as mine on how much he earns. |

tai2:If you think the O.P. aint right on these issues quoted above, its either you have never LIVED (not visited) in a foreign country dominated by the white folks or you have grown a damn too tough skin to cushion against such weighty (from a sensitive perspective) issues such as racism and loneliness. Life is not all about the money people. I swear, I understood this when I moved into this country some months ago. What I earn now is over $16,000/month. When you compare that to what i was earning in Nigeria with the fact that I had more responsibilities with litttle resources back there, you would know that right here- There is MONEY! Back to the issue of Loneliness... It is so damn true. I bought my favorite car last week here, a Mercedes S500 just to make myself happy and take my mind away from this lonely state of mind, yeah its that bad. For me, the major escape route out of situations I cant control is just to peep into my bank account and spend, spend, spend till the account is feeling threatened! You are gonna die of isolation in here trust me if you are the type who once led a bubbly social life back in Nigeria. You get ignored by someone you had a 2 hour lively conversations with some nights ago and you'd just stand there and be thinking "Did he/she see me and walked past like that, or she isn't the same person?" features like this occur daily here. Some of you would say "hey, go out and make friends". LOL. Do you know Racism is still very much alive in the west, but they are just concealing it? They practice what i would call Institutionalized racism mehnnn. it is a practice where the white folks look at you and smile back at you and willing to assist you with whatever BUT not willing to take it beyond that. I met some Nigerians here who's been living here for over 8 years yet they dont even have a LIFE! They'd pretend all is well -Socially but hey, they aint happy people. They are lonely. Many of them got good jobs and the ones with wives and kids cant really take their wives and kids to visit "friends" on sundays except of course the "friend" is a Nigerian and not a burden to them. It wasn't with my clear eyes I resuscitated my friendship with some of my exes back in Nigeria. For no damn reason, I sent two IPhone 6S to different girls that I once dated back in Nigeria- one married, the other unmarried. Why? They were damn too good to me, I never appreciated those girls enough while we dated back then and coming here I realized how precious those girls were to me that sometimes I just wanna quit this place and head back home and Live Normal again but peeps be telling me "e go better". With money, these folks here would give you some level of FORCED respect but asides that you are not better off than the Imaginary monkeys in their heads. I have got game people. Dont worry about all my rants above, I have got 3 white chics helping me ease tensions when necessary but let me tell you, the one i love so much, the Dad doesnt even talk to blacks. You can see where I'm coming from. We just bang, shop, club, surf, go to beach and have all that fun once work is pretty much less and leisure time is available but hey that feeling of emptiness creeps in every once in a while. So it isn't about the money and all. But mortgage life sweet small sha. I just bought a duplex here and my monthly payment is being partially serviced by rents i receive from about 3 flats I bought some months immediately I landed my job- Na calculations here and there ooo people, I never knew I would be making financial decisions like this but thanks to the efficient system we've got in place here, You can plan your life better here than there in Nigeria. Isolation/Loneliness and Racism remains the bane of an African in this society. Even the lowest of the Low whites thinks he is better than you coz you are black. Don't ever feel intimidated here. Got here with my self esteem still intact and I wouldn't trade that for anything. Some online merchants debited my account wrongly when i came in, i tried requesting for rectification but they were acting all bossy and shit. I didnt even bother wasting time, I just got a Lawyer, paid him about $4,750 for his services- asked him to file court papers and serve the airheads. They came begging the following week giving me my full refund of the fraudulent debit of $275 yeah... I sued for that amount when i felt these guys were treating me like this coz they were accustomed to treating Africans like that and hey they gave me my full cost of money $4,750 spent on the Legal services as part of the terms of settlement. My Lawyer a white guy was so surprised that a black man would go this length to seek redress hence he tried discouraging me with such high fee of $4,750 to fight for $275! I was even given a free gift card of $1000 afterwards. That is just my experience so far in obodo Oyibo. |

thewatcher2020: You have captured the life in print very well. Glad to read you do not tolerate the racist whites delusional nonsense and dealt with that matter proper. In Nigeria there is a different kind of closeness that many do not share in the US, unless one has a circle of good people both family and friends. Nobody in the US wants to get close to someone they don't know and have them drag them into trouble or jail. This has some to do with the felt distance. That loneliness for that closeness shared in Nigeria may linger until back in Nigeria. |
