modath:Ma i am happy, you have once worked in the banking sector in time past so you will understand me when i share my experience. Are you aware that the exchange rate differences is a game of corruption ? Are you aware some people make money of the BDC's Are you aware of the corruption going on within the outbound money transfer section of banks?? I laughed hysterically few days ago, when i saw the headlines ' CBN INVESTIGATE REASON FOR DOLLAR RATE @ BLACK MARKET ". I hate the fact that we Nigerians know the problem and keep deceiving ourselves. Its not like i was told; No!!!!! Its what i have seen; Its what i have done. On 6th of July 2015 at 7:50Am in the morning at one of the well known banks till 8:49Pm night. Trying to transfer out 49Million. My experience i will never forget. Corruption is heavy within the banking sector. I practically saw i had to bribe and i bribed. ( Na money we dei look for!! )Do you know that not all BDCs are sold dollars too by the CBN? Do you know the force most BDC lets say BDC A to buy from another BDC say BDC B? All these leads to rise in the exchange rate. A well known BDC i know. When i mean well known , he is so popular that you get to see IBB Son, and other prominent Niger figure head in the political scene at his place changing dollars. [ i brought this in to state how known he is]. He told me that he is not even allowed to buy Dollars directly, he goes through a staff and this staff gets it to him at a price, making almost 10naira on every dollars. We talked at full length, i even drove him to the mosque that Friday. And we headed back to the Central Bank. So i saw things for myself. Studying the way the CBN goes around a lot of Macro-economic variables like exchange rate, you will notice a lot of discrepancies and shady dealings. If you care, i can forward you my findings. i have raw Data in my Google drive, excel and pdf of up to 84 pages, call any page and i will summarize it for you. i can send to you to see for your self. i have circled and highlighted them in red, blue and black pen. Ma, with what i have seen, we have a long way to go. There are 4 types of Money 1. Oil Money 2. Telecom Money 3. Custom Money 4. CBN EXCHANGE RATE MONEY. ( Blood money ) OOOO bless me Sango , Ogun , Oya and Obatala so i can lay my hands on these money. Yes the dollars will get to N250 this year. Dont mind me i am a business fan, so i always study and make research findings before i dive in. Couple with my recent interest on writing ICAN, i have developed so much love for the banking sector / stock market and FX. |

Ymodulus:My Mentor!!! It is well. Just don't forget to carry me along in this new love affair. Truth is govt policy continuously is affecting the entire situation adversely. Economically weaker countries will continue to be at the mercy of the larger and stronger economies when it comes to currency shakeup. Importation fellows in Nigeria like myself are feeling the heat very much (Uganda is worse at the moment even) because currently, the dollar stings hard and sadly, it can continue. We are a weak country. Macroeconomic strategies crafted by US policy makers (Shale potential by the side) are sure helping them but I dey feel am bad. How do we adjust off this considering that the basic Nigerian consumer may not even 'see' goods to purchase in the coming weeks? |

@Ymodulus, I'm not arguing with you, I'm trying to express optimism that they will arrest the falling BM rate (I already heard its about 242,so even 260+ is not far fetched).. You don't need to talk plenty, I've worked in a regional branch with big govt accounts where I saw things that made & still makes me shake my head for this beloved country of ours. ![]() @Elparaiso, Don't , leave your money in your account & use your card to withdraw here, if you have a stanbic, standard chartered or worst case Fidelity, you are good to go. |
