Nlc Meet With Senate President Over Minimum Wage by FREEEMANAN(op): 10:27pm On Jul 23, 2015
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has met with the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, over the 18, 000 naira minimum wage paid to workers.
This came as part of Senator Saraki’s continuous meeting with different interest groups in Nigeria.

Shortly after the meeting which took place on Thursday in Abuja, the NLC President, Comrade Ayuba Waba, said that 18,000 naira was no longer realistic as minimum wage for workers.

He observed that the minimum wage was grossly inadequate in an import driven country like Nigeria, with the present devaluation of the naira from 150 per dollar to about 242 to a dollar.

Waba stated that the NLC intends to submit a new minimum wage demand to the National Assembly.

Speaking on how to free workers from the bondage of poverty, he advised that government should tackle the problem of corruption in the country.

The NLC President said that Nigerians were alarmed by the rapid increase in the budget of the National Assembly and wondered why the earnings and expenditure of lawmakers were concealed.

Waba also revealed the Union’s plan to organise an anti-corruption rally to demonstrate that Nigerians would no longer tolerate corruption by government officials

Funny lot. When they have not been able to get states to pay backlog of salaries of the existing minimum wage, they are asking for an increase.
Is NLC even aware many states and companies are not even paying the minimum wage?
They are indeed comedians.

Saraki should have better things to think about like his head and the SP seat than 'minimum wage'.

This would be itemized 2nd to the last on his to-do list with the least possible priority.

Redundant pple asking for wage increment? what a contradiction. Ironically, they want to be rewarded for their monumental idleness.

I don't think it is wise for any reasonable public servant or officer to identify with SP Saraki for now. His seat is not being accorded the respect it deserves for obvious reasons.

A public employee identifying with him may be interpreted as taking sides against the anti-corruption project of the Buhari-Led-Administration.

Since becoming the SP Saraki has been seen with OBJ, Atiku, American Consuls, ICPC Head, and CBN Gov Emeifule.

A number of these people have since gone into the black book of the Buhari-Led-Administration.

As for NLC why complain to someone that does not control the powers that can help you. He only has the genuine support of 7 Senators.
