I was enveloped with utter amazement and disbelief at the baseless sentiments being peddled on this forum by members of the opposition, that the recent US trip embarked upon by President Buhari was entirely fruitless and a waste of resources. That assertion could have been correct and be categorized as a product of sanity if not for the following facts:

1. PMB honoured an invitation.

The first point to note President Buhari did not just embark on the trip for sightseeing or primarily to go and seek for weapons, but the visit was in honour of President Barrack Obama’s invitation on the strength of our president’s local and international goodwill. Thus international goodwill is as a result of the president’s acclaimed integrity, discipline and incorruptibility. This goodwill largely accounted for the way Buhari and his entourage were accommodated in Blair’s House, which serves as a site for “American Diplomacy” during the visit. This shows the esteem with which Buhari is held on account of this goodwill considering the fact that previous visiting Nigerian leaders never had such luxury treatment.
http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/185645-obama-invites-buhari-to-white-house.html

2. External Support for Policy Formulation & Execution

Indeed international partners had a rare opportunity to engage Nigeria on a new beginning given the fact that ministers are yet to be appointed and key policies are still being worked out, their input would definitely contribute to the shaping of this new governments policies, which would also make it more likely that we will have their full support in the execution of such policies. The input from potential investors and Biz executives at the recent meeting with Buhari in Washington is a case in point.
http://sunnewsonline.com/new/buhari-woos-american-businessmen-to-invest-in-nigerian-economy/

3. Diplomatic Ties

There are also diplomatic consequences of the visit. It has the prospect of strengthening diplomatic relations of both countries. Obama has never visited Nigeria in his almost eight-year-tenure. This is not best for the image of Nigeria as the greatest black African Nation. Buhari’s visit may have provided a convenient platform for Obama to reciprocate the gesture by undertaking a visit to Nigeria in no distant future.
http://www.voanews.com/content/boosting-us-nigerian-ties-heart-obama-buhari-meeting/2866827.html

4. Recovery of Foreign Loot
Nigeria also requires assistance in retrieving stolen wealth stashed in some American commercial banks or covert agencies. There are strong indications and suggestions that some of these loots have been deployed in the purchase of expensive and expansive estate in Washington D.C. and its environs particularly the State of Maryland. As a result of this visit, the United States said it will assist Nigeria in locating and returning funds stolen by corrupt government officials.
http://uk.reuters.com/article/2015/07/19/uk-usa-nigeria-idUKKCN0PT03R20150719

5. Re-enforcement of Anti-Gay Stance

President Buhari on this U.S trip, re-emphasized that Nigeria's Anti-sodomy legislation stands and will not be repealed as it goes against the culture and morals of Nigerians. President Buhari's refusal to compromise on this stance has been applauded by Nigerians far and wide.

The expectation is that the president’s latest visit to the US has marked a good beginning for the realisation of Nigerian’s vast potential. As noted by Obama, Buhari came into the office with a reputation of integrity and a clear agenda on corruption and Boko Haram insurgency including fixing the economy and infrastructure, therefore I call on members of the opposition to realize that months of wailing will not return Jonathan, so they should join hands with all Nigerians to achieve these objectives for the betterment of our nation.

The trip is best described as a 'reunion' between PMB and his campaign masters(US) and PMB and his 'alleged' war college alumni... using tax payers money.... and he didn't fail to carry his stooges along.

What a blatant show of frivolity and insensitivity.
What a [change]shame.

Those are not reasons for anything, but outcomes of PMB's visit. What single outcome did the previous government achieve on its many trips?

Nigeria's international image was severely battered under Jonathan to the point where our Ambassador to the U.S, Mr Adefuye was asked to stay away from the President's visit to the White House.

The shameful begging of Moroccan authorities for a phone call by the last Presidency and the subsequent humiliation is still fresh in our memories

This is nothing like the previous government.

It affects us because Nigerian-US relations were non-existent under the previous adminstration, to the point where our current Ambassador was shunned by the U.S authorities because of his past antagonistic stance under Jonathan.

In a sane clime, when an important visitor calls, especially from a very far distance, the honourable thing to do is to escort them when they are leaving, to the bus park at least.
OP, how does this change the fact that a whole President Muhammad Buhari was abandoned by Obama for Kenya? Kenya?!
Isn't that an insult on our sensibilities, is he trying to say that Buhari is not important in the grand scheme of things?

What PMB did was set a solid foundation for their workability where there was none. The fact is that Government policies, especially trade and investment, will definitely benefit from the insights gained from this trip and the many meetings.

There's nothing gainful about the tour! You called it a tour, and a tour it really was. We gained nothing as a nation but your reckless shepherd had fun touring the States and staging press conference with less influential secretary of state.

He honoured an invitation, was he asked to honour the invitation with his APSheee flocks and demons?
What did we gain? The loss of 2.2billion Naira to the futile Blair house adventure?

How many business ties/deals were announced throughout his photo-taking adventure in the US? Isn't it in the news that your hero-father Buhari has accused America of aiding Boko Haram? He can't have toured the White House gainfully and still comeback to wail about America's ghost aid to Boko Haram.

Is this present government not sophisticated enough to be leaping with euphoria of joy at the mention of any superfluous achievement? What will the presence of Obama add to Nigeria? What was the impact of the visits of Bill Clinton, Queen Eliza and co in their various visits to Nigeria? How far have the countries Obama visited progressed? Is it that this government lacks confident and has more faith in less concerned nations helping them fight it's battle? This is terribly interesting!

"America will know." how many of us remember that famous sentence? Bikonu, if America doesn't or didn't know how then will they be able to help recover the stolen funds? They even made mockery of him and called him all sorts of despicable and derogatory names, no thanks to their lack of decorum. But now it seems they're also doing the same thing they insulted him of. Talk about hypocrisy!

This government is built on lies and hypocrisy, and whatever you hypocritically accuses your neighbour of, you must surely fall victim to someday.

Fulaman or fulamafia or whatever your name is, you can't hide the truth no matter how hard you try to decorate and embellish your lies. The tour was fruitless and everybody can see that, even your fellow All Pathetic Clown (APC)members know that. You lots are just terrible!

I shake my head when I see threads like this. Say what ever u like, ur president misadventure to the united States was a waste of public funds. He gained nothing, it was a jamboree of himself and his APC acolytes with oshomhole displaying his shameless trophy wife alongside them. With just a few months in the saddle ur president has shown by his actions or inactions that he lacks what it takes to be a leader nay a democratic one. He has a plethora of domestic issues to attend to least being forming a government by appointing his cabinet and sorting issues with the APC confused house of assembly rather he has chosen to waste tax payers money by being an irresponsible ajala the traveller

You're not being objective here. Can you deny the significance of a robust diplomatic relation with such an influential country as the U.S? President Obama invited PMB to the white house shortly after he was sworn in, so as to mend fences for our mutual benefit, after the horrible relationship we had under the incompetent Jonathan that ended up eyeing Amanpour in between lies instead of answering basic questions on power.

As for hatching eggs prematurely, you will agree that the hen has to be pregnant first. The formation of robust policies are dependent on a firm and informed foundation which is the point you seem unable to comprehend.

1. Honoring an Invitation has no effect on Nigerians.

2. For real? How many business deal did Buhari sign in US? How many MoUs did he initiate or sign? Which commitment did he secure (not jiust verbal commitment)? Which policy was discussed or formulated?

3. What kind of diplomatic tie did he strengthen? Is it not embarrassing that Obama left his "visitor" in the US to a Secretary of State (Foreign Minister) and not even his VP? Is that not embarassing?

4. Which loot did he recover@OP? This is funny... Are you aware that even before PMB won election the Americans had agreed to repatriated $480million Abacha's loot in 2014?
www.360nobs.com/2014/08/u-s-to-return-480-million-of-abacha-loot/

5. Jonathan already criminalised Homosexuality. That is not even a subject of negotiation.

OP stop embarrassing Buhari... Buhari went to the USA to embarass Nigerians and also wasted tax payers money.

I have absolutely no doubt that his US trip was a success, and we'll soon start seeing its result. But then again, i don't expect the saTANists AKA Wailing Wailers to see any good coming out of it.

1. Honoring an Invitation has no effect on Nigerians.

It affects us because Nigerian-US relations were non-existent under the previous administration, to the point where our current Ambassador was shunned by the U.S authorities because of his past antagonistic stance under Jonathan.

You cannot pretend having a poor diplomatic relationship with the U.S does not have adverse effects on any country.

2. For real? How many business deal did Buhari sign in US? How many MoUs did he initiate or sign? Which commitment did he secure (not jiust verbal commitment)? Which policy was discussed or formulated?

He secured their commitment to explore investment in all sectors of the economy, particularly non-oil, while assuring them of the continuation of the privatization programme BUT under an improved moral architecture. In light of this, PMB promised to review Visa regulations to encourage the investors.

What kind of diplomatic tie did he strengthen? Is it not embarrassing that Obama left his "visitor" in the US to a Secretary of State (Foreign Minister) and not even his VP? Is that not embarassing?

You have been parroting this lie to you mindless drones all day.

President Obama left the White House for Kenya on Thursday evening at exactly 8:05pm local time (U.S)

President Buhari left the Joint Base Andrews Airport on Wednesday, before Obama left.

As the wailer-in-chief, you owe a duty of responsibility to your minions to inform them of facts so they do not keep ridiculing themselves.

I respect your effort in educating these people but Lemme tell you something - Their case is akin to an ancient African being converted to another ideology and religion , it would be easier killing that Fulanimafiagoat than trying to show him the truth and it's not his fault , this is how they think just like a one way traffic .

Thank you, Truckpusher for the compliment, I appreciate.

But please, I do not co-sign the insult on the person of the original poster.
He has shown some civility, let's accord him samekiss

Kindly change the heading of 1. above to reflect the content of the body. "He Honoured an invitation"....people do that everyday. I hope you catch my drift.
When you talk about his acclaimed goodness et al, I would like us to do so based on the realities on ground.

This "acclaim" you talk about, is it the one he rightfully earned or the one which the media and some propagandic elements wore on him as a vestment?

Please put me in the know here....
As a former administrator of this country, what was Buhari's legacy? What policy, what enduring example did he leave behind?
Good intentions are not enough.
Actions are!....

When someone comes to visit me, and I escort them to the bus stop, it is my way of saying, "I had a nice time with you. Let's do this again"....but if I don't walk you or leave you to attend to someone else, it is an indication that I am irritated at your stay, or that, you are not really important to me, if you are a first time visitor, the implication is that I have sized you up and you are not worth my time.

Look, I will be candid with you.
I was pained on behalf of PMB.
A hallowed guest, by reason of being the president of the most populous black nation was not so much as given a walk by his host, he neither stayed around to bid him good bye.

That in my opinion is a clear indication that America is not serious about us.
They do not mean well for us.
So when you open a thread about gains of his tour, I am somewhat pissed and at the same time bemused.

Like I said earlier, Oga Fulani...I'd rather not hatch my eggs prematurely.
Again, I reiterate that you take down 2 & 3 as gains cum achievements until we begin to see their workability.
Thank you.

You're a deluded fellow my friend ,robust policies would be made overnight over a country your kinsmen bastardized for more than 40 yrs just for their hunger for power? Until you abandon your hypocritical nature this country will waste in the midst of plenty and constantly remain in wants and abject poverty.
You and I knew that Buhari wasn't the answer but for your myopic dreams of power at all cost you're here defending the indefensible - The next President of this country should give the West whatever they want to stop the north from destroying itself and drag all of us back like they've always done.
