President Muhammadu Buhari held a meeting with the speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara and other All Progressive Congress (APC) members in the House, on Monday, July 27.

The meeting reportedly ended in deadlock.

According to Daily Trust report, the meeting which held at the new banquet hall of the Aso Rock presidential villa lasted for only 20 minutes.

The meeting was said to have started at 5.40p.m. and ended at 6p.m.

In attendance were Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, national chairman of the party, John Odigie-Oyegun, national deputy chairman (South West) Segun Oni and the spokesman of the party, Lai Mohammed.

Dogara and Femi Gbajabiamila led members of their factions to the meeting which was held to resolve the ongoing crisis over leadership in the lower chamber of the National assembly.

According to Punch report, the meeting failed to resolve the crisis as the two factions in the House stuck to their different positions.

Gbajabiamila said: “We are still talking and this is the first time that the two camps will be sitting together as one family in an atmosphere of camaraderie.”

The national chairman of the APC, John Odigie-Oyegun, said the party would have a good news for the nation by tomorrow.

One of the members who attended the meeting told Premium Times that Buhari ordered the warring lawmakers to resolve all pending ahead of the resumption of plenary on Tuesday.

He said the president asked Dogara and Gbajabiamila to hold a meeting with the national chairman of the APC, John Odigie-Oyegun and find a solution to the problem within the next six hours.

The source who pleaded anonymity said: “He said he never wanted to interfere in the affairs of the Legislature, but he’s now forced to do so to maintain party discipline.

“The president said it is unacceptable for him to be in office under the APC, and the PDP would be allowed to dictate who occupies positions in an administration he heads.

“Buhari urged all members to look beyond themselves and consider the country and the platform under which they were elected.”

Dogara was elected Speaker of the House of Reps on June 9 against the wishes of his party. He polled 182 votes to defeat Gbajabiamila, who had 174 votes.

The APC had chosen Senator Gbajabiamila as its sole candidates for the position but Dogara went ahead to contest and won.

The House of Reps has been involved in leadership crisis following his emergence and this has stopped the nomination of other principal officers.

Isokay. Yoruba people say: Ere ki Laja nbekun se? These DogarA and Saraki camps are rebellious fellows from PDP, their skin cannot be changed. Strange bedfellas. Their natural crave for power supercedes national interest and they would stop at nothing to hold on even when its obvious the chips on d table are against them. But for how long?

Greed won't allow some of these APC politicians get their acts together and realise they are in position as a privilege from Nigerians. They should not tow the line of their criminal counterparts (PDP) from where some of them ran away from.

Buhari knows that many of these fools merely rode on his back to win election and if anything goes wrong, they'll start looking for another party to run to (not PDP though), that's why he's now waded in unlike his earlier decision. The lawmakers better get their acts under control

Buhari is a real leader.
I bet he didn't bother to hear their differences.

Under jonathan, This meeting woulda gone on till the wee hours of tomorrow.

Al the same, if I were femi (ahum)Gbajaabiala and I had any jot of morals left in me I'd drop this contest. This is a clear case of 'the sins of yesterday catching up with him'.

you didn't hear where the president said it is unacceptable for him to be in office under the APC, and the PDP would be allowed to dictate who occupies positions in an administration he heads.

That is a clear indication that he prefer the party candidates, Femi and co to what Dogara is trying to impose, he does not need to talk too much before people with discerning mind can understand him.Dogara should do the needful.
