let den. be Y

num = 5 less than den
X = Y-5

num + 6 and den + 4 = 2time the fraction

X+6 / Y+4 = 2X/Y

sub. X for Y-5

Y-5+6 / Y+4 = (2Y-10 )/Y
cross multiply
Y(Y+1) = Y+4 (2Y-10 )
Y^2 + Y = 2Y^2 - 10Y +8Y -40

Y^2 - 3Y - 40 = 0

I guess you can take it on from there
