Nigerians have begun to criticize President Muhammadu Buhari for taking credit for the recent feat in the rehabilitation of refineries, railway projects and the eradication of polio in Nigeria.

Tunde Okoli, who spoke to Post Nigeria said “Turn around maintenance of refineries (old and archaic ones like we have for that matter) is not a day’s job.

“Perhaps, you guys want to claim GMB already put the refurbishing of the refineries in motion since 2014 when he, obviously was still contemplating what future awaits his political career when the opposition coalition that brought him to power was still in the making.
“That was how one goon listed the man’s statutory roles as “achievements” in a post barely two week ago and ended up labeling Buhari ‘SUPERMAN.’ Can you imagine that buffoonery?”

Adain said “The turn-around-maintenance has been on for some time. We did not just want to make any noise about it…

“When GEJ was in, they didn’t want to make noise about it. This made GEJ to look like he wasn’t doing anything. Suddenly, Buhari began ‘making noise about it.’
“Jonathan wanted to surprise Nigerians upon completion of the overhaul process?

“What we need is the change you promised, consolidate on the achievement and stop taking credit, you cannot reap were you have not sown.”

To most analysts, President Goodluck Jonathan’s name will be written in gold for his administration’s pragmatic efforts in reviving the Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC, which has been comatose for nearly 30 years.

Some of the listed rails under construction and will soon be commissioned are 322km Lagos-Benin City line, 500km Benin-Abakiliki line, 673km Benin-Obudu Cattle Ranch line, 615km Lagos-Abuja high speed line, 520km Zaria-Birnin- Koni line, 533km Ega nyi-Otukpo and the Ega nyi-Abuja line.

Presently, you can now travel by rail from Lagos to Kano; Enugu to Port-Harcourt to Makurdi, to Jos, to Bauchi and Gombe.

It is projected that 700,000 passengers will ride the Abuja Light Rail, ALR, on a daily basis, courtesy Jonathan when the first phase of the project takes off soon.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have called on Buhari to get ready to be probed as soon as he leaves office.

A lawmaker representing Ohaozara/Onicha/Ivo, Ebonyi State Federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Linus Okorie reminded Buhari of the Natural law of “what goes around comes around,” stressing that if Buhari decides to be unfair to his predecessor, he should expect similar treatment from his successor. It takes a greater man to recognise a great man. Buhari should show he's a greater man by acknowledging what GEJ has done

Abuja — President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday performed the groundbreaking ceremony of foundation laying of the Light Railway. The value of the project is in the excess of $841 million with a completion date of four years, which is a complementary factor in our bid for the Commonwealth Games of 2014."

The President who was on official tour of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja had earlier in the day commissioned the permanent office of the Abuja Geographic Information System (AGIS) and the Area 11 Neighbourhood Centre, Garki, inspected the Urban Shelter Ultra-modern Market and thereafter cut tapes at : the Rural Telephony projects situated within the premises of the National Assembly; the Mabushi Interchange; Jabi Lake Resort; Wupa Waste Treatment Plant and performed the ground breaking foundation ceremony of the Abuja Rail Mass Transit Project as well as commissioned Accra Street Park in Wuse Zone 5.

Nigeria's president has kicked off a mammoth effort to immunize 80 million children against polio in 23 African countries, described by international health experts as "the single-largest public health campaign" in history to wipe out the disease.

President Olusegun Obasanjo led health workers in giving dozens of children oral vaccine drops in the mainly Muslim northern city of Kano, Nigeria, where until recently Islamic leaders had opposed immunization, inadvertently allowing the virus to spread in the region.

The campaign is being coordinated by the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, which includes U.N. health agencies, the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Rotary International.

The effort will get under way in earnest starting Oct. 8, when local and international health workers are due to go door-to-door in an effort to immunize every child under age 5 across west and central Africa as well as war-ravaged Sudan.

A statement by the Global Polio Eradication Initiative called it "the single-largest, public health campaign in history."

Fears fanned by some Islamic preachers that polio vaccines were laced with the AIDS virus and anti-fertility agents in a U.S.-backed plot to depopulate Muslims prompted authorities to suspend polio immunization in three states in the mainly Muslim north in August last year.

While other states rejoined the polio eradication campaign within weeks, Kano state governor Ibrahim Shekarau maintained his vaccine ban until late July, when he said he was satisfied with vaccines obtained from the predominantly Muslim nation of Indonesia.

The 11-month break saw a resurgence of the polio virus, as strains traced to Nigeria re-infected 12 previously polio-free, African countries.

Shekarau -- whose 1-year-old daughter Zainab was vaccinated by Obasanjo on Saturday -- supported two earlier polio vaccination rounds in Kano state. Those campaigns, held in July and September, immunized 4.6 million children.

Polio usually infects children under 5 through contaminated drinking water. It attacks the central nervous system, causing paralysis, muscular atrophy, deformation and, in some cases, death.

"Polio anywhere is a threat to children everywhere," said Rima Salah, director of the UNICEF in west and central Africa, welcoming the African Union's efforts to halt its transmission in the continent.

Nigeria and its northern neighbor Niger are among six countries in the world where polio remains endemic. The others are India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Egypt.

By Aug. 24, the World Health Organization reported 602 cases of polio globally, with 476 in Nigeria alone. India recorded 34 cases, Pakistan 23, Niger 19, Afghanistan three and Egypt just one.

Elsewhere, Chad has reported 12 cases, Ivory Coast has nine, Burkina Faso has six, Benin six, Sudan five, Central African Republic three and Mali two. Guinea, Cameroon and Botswana each have one case.
