Please sorry o, No offence, just wanna ask, must everybody get married?

I'm sure you know Funke was once married, and got divorced not long ago. Even if she has plans to remarry, you don't expect her to rush into it this time.

Stop comparing her to Omotola, cos they're two different people with two different destinies.

Btw, she dint ask anyone to post her pictures here. So blame the Op for uploading it, rather than blaming Funke.

Merci!

Are you per chance insinuating that divorce has anything to do with destiny or something

No, not that. I'm not saying that.

I'm talking about getting married. I mean, everyone's clock ticks differently. He shouldnt compare Omotola's marital life to Funke's as regards that.

We all know what happened to Funke recently.

She's got her choice to make. And I dont think it should affect anyone.

True but ambiguous...
Kindly note that;
I am not a relationship expert...but I think getting married and staying married is a question of choice not destiny too...Its pretty nonsense that one would cite irreconcilable differences as reason for divorce...Irreconcilable with someone you claimed to love ab initio...Not true...Maybe you never loved at all...Marriage is about unique individuals who can never be the same but chooses to accommodate and understand their differences...Why chicken out in between the journey?...

Time of marriage isn't about destiny too...its about personality and environment...

Maybe I chose the wrong use of word "Destiny" But I'm sure you get my point.

I mean, it's a matter of choice, its not a must she remarries. And no one can force her to. Cos she's the one who wears the shoe, and knows where it hurts.

That asides, @bolded, remember it takes 2 to reconcile. I dont know much about what went down between her and her ex-husband. But there are cases whereby, one of the 2 is ready to reconcile, but the other would rather divorce. How do you settle such issue amicably, without resulting to divorce?

There are lots of divorcee who truly loved their partner, and wanted things to fall in place. But the other partner wouldnt want it. You cant say everyone who is divorced never truly loved their partner. Different sides of a coin.

And yea, "Marriage is about unique individuals who can never be same but chooses to accommodate and understand their differences"

You're right, not everyone understands that tho.

Yea...I got your point but I simply get freaked out seeing how people justify divorce maybe I have primitive African mentality...especially the so-called celebrities... Maybe because I am too timid so I can't understand them...

BTW are you married?...Under what condition will you go for divorce?

lols. Talking about the rate of divorce amongst celebrities, that's just so rampant. That I cant even say which can be justified, and which can't be.

But I think to an extent, divorce can be justified. I think some people have genuine reasons why they chose to divorce. Some women cant stick to men that batters. It's a total turn off.

Just as I stated up there, not everyone wants it, but most cases, your partner decides what you get. A case where you partner isnt ebven ready to reconcile, and files for divorce. what do you do?

Need I say, there are couples who aint staying together, but they dont see it as being divorced, cos there are no legal agreements binding it. But the thing is, they are apart. I think the Divorce is Divorce tho!

Btw, I'm not married, so there are no conditions yet.

For me, battery isn't enough ground for divorce...maybe still my primitive African mentality...

I had a chat with a Lady...I told her that men has their physical strength to intimidate ladies while ladies have their mouth to intimidate men...(In marriage, let the man hold his hand and let the lady hold her mouth)...

I still believe that there's hardly any sufficient reason for divorce...not emotional or physical trauma that folks sing around these days...Why not stay unmarried if you can't condone or tolerate excesses of another...Whatever you see in marriage, there must be a pointer during courtship...

Oh, dont say that! cry Battery? No! No!! No!!! People have died cos of this.

Some men/women are great pretenders. That you wouldnt know they could do such. (But in most cases, I must admit that those signs shows while courting, but not all cases) Some, situations makes them change.

You stated something up there ""In marriage, let the man hold his hand and let the lady hold her mouth"" Yes, I agree with you, but not everyone can do that. It just wouldnt work in some marriages.

Not everyone has that level of self control.

There are sufficient reasons why people divorce, just like I said, there are some, that are quite justifiable.

Permit me to bring in the scriptures here. The scripture aint against divorce. It even gave conditions for it. Please kindly read:

1st Corithians 7 vs 15, and Matthew 5vs 31 to 32.

One major issue we have with constant rate of divorce these days is cos of the way youths rush into marriages.

A popular saying goes "Marriage is an institution, when you rush in, you rush out"

You said "Why not stay unmarried if you can't condone or tolerate excesses of another"

That's exactly what brought about this discussion. People have their reasons why they choose not to marry or remarry. I dont think they should be blamed for it.

Not everyone gets what he or she anticipated for in the marriage. Besides, our level of patience differs.

From your post, it appears you are either unmarried or you hardly interact with the rest of society.

Domestic violence/battery is enough grounds for a divorce. It is a major factor of the irreconcilable differences, that someone mentioned earlier. sad

How would you like to stay in a marriage where someone turns you into a punching bag, on a daily basis? If you are a woman would you do so? If you are a man, would you advise your daughter, sister or loved one to remain in such a marriage? Using your African mentality? shocked

Do you know how many women have been battered to death, in their homes within Nigeria? Such cases are often under-reported because the man or the extended family often finds an excuse to cover it up, out of shame or fear.

There was a time I acted as a volunteer for an NGO in a general hospital. I lost count of the number of women who came to the hospital to receive treatment for injuries inflicted on them by their husbands.

Just to refresh your memory, here is a story about domestic violence that went viral a few years ago. Maybe the woman would still be alive if she had gotten a divorce. There is no marriage, that is worth dying for.

How Akolade allegedly tortured banker-wife, Titilayo Arowolo – Witness

By ABDULWAHAB ABDULAH IKEJA —Folake Oyahire, immediate younger sister to the late banker, Mrs. Titilayo Arowolo, allegedly murdered by her husband, Akolade Arowolo, yesterday, told an Ikeja High Court, Lagos, that the accused had been violent to his wife even before her death.

Led in evidence by the state Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, Mrs. Olabisi Ogungbesan, Oyahire said on several occasions, her sister had told her of the rough time she was having in the hands of her husband, especially while at home with him in their Akindehinde Street, Isolo, Lagos, residence.

Oyahire, a law student of the Nigerian Law School, said the eventual death of her banker-sister was the cumulative events of fighting between the couple.

Folake, who said she was close to her sister, notwithstanding that she schooled in Abuja, also told the court that she knew that there had been prior incidents visited on her sister by the husband.

She said: “My sister, Titilayo, had invited me over to her family friend’s house, where she was visiting with her husband. When I got there and saw her, every part of her face was swollen and her eyes were bloodshot. She told me she got the injury when she and Akolade went out the night before.

“She told me that on their way back, Akolade had kept raining blows on her in the face despite the fact that she was carrying her baby in her arms.”

She corroborated the evidence given by Titilayo’s step-mother, Adetoun and her sister, Aidehi.

She added that on June 24, Aidehi received a call from their father, who was away in Kano State that Titilayo had sounded apprehensive and panicky and that they should visit her. She said they could not go that day because it was raining heavily, but that herself and Aidehi, started calling her Starcomms and MTN lines.

She said: “At first, someone picked the Starcomms, but did not say anything, it became silent on the other end. Eventually, her husband picked the call and when I asked about Titilayo, he told me they had some minor issues but that they had resolved it.

“I then asked to speak with my sister and the defendant told me to hold on for two minutes that he would give her the phone. But the phone went silent and I called back several times and nobody picked when it rang.”

The witness added that she had gone to the market to buy foodstuff on the next day, when she received a call from her sister, Aidehi, that she should come to the Isolo residence of the deceased, that something had happened.

According to her, she immediately took a cab to Isolo and ran straight to her sister’s apartment on the last floor of the three- storey building.

She said: “I noticed the door had been forced opened when I got to my sister’s house. I went straight to the bedroom where I saw her body on the bed. I saw a knife in her neck; there was blood on the bed and one of her eyes was dangling from its socket.

“There was also a big wound on the left side of her chest. I quickly ran out of the room because I couldn’t stand the sight any further. I felt dizzy. So, I went downstairs and stayed there till the police arrived and took the corpse away to the mortuary.”

The landlord of the Akolade’s residence at Akindehide St., Isolo, Lagos (names withheld) also testified before the court.

Now you have confirmed my suspicions.... you are still single. Oya, go and get married first. Then after 3 years of marriage, come back & revisit this thread and update us on your findings! Am sure your African mentality would have undergone a major overhaul! shocked

Oh, you think the women (or men) who have been battered black & blue by their spouses did not try communication, initially?

Communication is a 2-way street. Can you communicate with someone who is unwilling to listen to you? Or can you communicate with someone whose only means of communication is his fists?

Bros, the day you see your beloved sister or daughter being pummeled like a punching bag under the auspices of marriage, please stand up and chant "communication," maybe it will quell the battering of her body.
