I use bank of America . Chase is also good. Just check for the one closer to you.

I know bank of America only needs your passport shikena. I wanted to open a Chase acct 2 wks ago, they will ask for two form of ID.

You can open a bank of America acct immediately you arrive.
A checking account is good.

Living within one's means is definitely encouraged and those who know me in person know that I always advice people to do so. But there are just certain things in this country that to get you definitely need a credit history. I feel that I am beginning to sound like I am coercing people to go for credit cards that they do not want. No. I am simply clearing misconceptions that I have noticed many people seem to have on here.

Certain things like buying a home in this country, you would definitely need to obtain a loan (mortgage) from a bank and pay that loan back to the bank gradually until you finish paying it off because houses in this country are expensive and most Americans don't buy land and build houses according to your pace until you finish building as we do in Nigeria but they buy already made homes. That's just how the country system has been made. There are no 2 ways about it. Except you are into business and can afford to buy a house from your business profits, other than that you can't really sidestep this process.

There you are!.

The article was examining why the culture that leads to borrowing exist, in the first place!.

Why can't someone who's working afford to buy a home without borrowing?.

Someone once said Americans don't have anything. They borrow to purchase everything they need. How is this a good thing?.

My brother, I now understand why the history is hidden. Apparently, the scheme has so much advanced that people from birth grow up with the mindset they cannot live without credit.

I now get it clearer why singer Justin Bieber once called the US health system "evil", and he was being threatened with deportation by the powers that be.

Thank you very much.

Mr Musicwriter, why nau? You must not understand how the American system works. Nobody grew up with the mindset that they can't live without credit. You need to know "credit" and "credit history" don't mean the same thing. The only thing that people need to know is having a good credit history shows financial responsibility.
Of course, people buy houses with saved up cash all the time without mortgage. The point is houses here are very expensive, and it takes the average American a while to save up to be able to afford a house without the assistance of a bank. Mortgage is an avenue to save yourself some rent, and have your own house sooner than later. It is the same way back home. People buy homes or lands and pay in installments. The only difference is it is difficult to get financial assistance from any bank. The American system is all about options, don't make it out into what it isn't. If you want to save your money and buy a house when you have enough cash, perfect! If you want to have a house soon and don't wan to wait till you've saved enough, perfect! There is something for everyone. Nobody is trying to lure anybody into poverty!

I won't use Bank of America. A bank close to me and I don't get to pay any monthly fee. Check with bank that don't charge monthly fee if you are a conservative like me in a village.

HELLO GURUS IN THE HOUSE...... GOOD EVENING AND HAPPY WEEKEND TO YOU ALL... PLEASE I HAVE A QUESTION WHICH HAD BEEN BOTHERING OVER A WEEEK AGO NOW, AM AN ADDICT FOLLOWER OF THIS THREAD BUT I HAVE NOT CONTRIBUTED FOR ONCE JJUST BECAUSE I FEELS ITS ADVISABLE FOR ME TO LEARN FIRST THEN LATER I CAN START CONTRIBUTING........BUT MY QUESTION IS,,,,,,,,,,,,,ABEG GURUS IS IT STILL FEASIBLE FOR ME TO STILL HAVE AN INTERVIEW APPOINTMENT IN THE MONTH OF AUGUST BECAUSE MY SCHOOL IS RESUMING ON THE 17TH OF THIS MONTH.....AND I DONT WANT TO FORFEIT THIS ADMITTION. PLEASE I THERE A WAY OUT? PLEASE SIR/MA YOUR UTHERMOST CONTRIBUTIONS IS HIGHLY WELCOME SIR...... GOD BLESS YOU RICHLY...... AMEN...

AM EXPECTANT SERIOUSLY

We don't know if it's feasible, you tell us. How well do you work under pressure? If pressure doesn't bother you, this is the time to be doing busy work. Contact your school, find out about extension letter and deferral, Contact the embassy and apply for emergency appointment. Based on how the emergency appointment application turns out, you'd decide your next step. You have about 2weeks, amazing things can happen in 2weeks. Personally, If I really want something I never give up until I'm sure there is no way. Then I go back to the drawing board, and strategize.

Remember they have a monthly service charge but they can be avoided if you get direct deposit.

Check out like 3-4 banks around you and weigh your option

If you are less than 24, you could open a bank of america or chase bank without a service charge for 5 years even if you grad before the 5years.

Go to diff banks and See the one that suit you

This can't be true!! But if it is, my question to you is why did you leave the admissions office Nobody will go home until it is sorted out. You should have explained to them "calmly" that there is no way that's your business. If they made a mistake, their luck. You didn't bring any money, so it's time to make the scholarship official. If being calm doesn't work, you should have switched to mushin things ....threatening to sue the "silliness" out of the them. Hehehe. I trust "me".

Abeg don't allow them collect that scholarship letter from you. Make plenty copies of it sharply. Go to the admission office and tell them that you don't have a dime. Don't go and be forming accent. Speak your naija English and use red eye go.

Tell them you will report to sevis, uscis and dhs if they dare make you run out of status. You can sue the daylight out of them.America lawyer are free to get. After the case, they will get their share.
but really, do school actually make such mistake, what were they thinking ??
Keep all evidence of admission and scholarship.

Highest they will approve the scholarship for this semester and no more scholarship for the next semester. If you actually have evidence, don't take it easy with them.

Let us know what the outcome is

Na this kind fight dey always sweet me pass grin grin. I will start parabulating their office and ask to see their boss. Na police go con carry me comot later cheesy cheesy

Yes I am currently 17. Does that mean that the service charge would be waived for me? And please what do you mean by a direct deposit?

Thanks.

The story is quite hard to believe because scholarships aren't just signified on i20. They are communicated in emails, which are usually duely signed.

But for the benefit of doubt.
You shouldn't take it easy on them.

If it requires seeing the president of the university, do it.
Your 9K must be approved. Worst case scenario, they won't approve it next year and you'll have 12 months to figure out your next move.

Good day gurus, pls I want to ask. Can someone transfer to a community college from a masters programme in a particular course, like from MPH to a community college?
Secondly, how much is mostly the tuition fee for a community college on an estimate?

I use first Tennessee bank and as a student you don't get charged. You can look for a non profit bank depending on where you are anyway. I don't need to withdraw I've never even used the ATM since I got here.

A lot of you guys seems to wana catch the last train out of paris.

As folks on here have advised...
You can try getting and emergency interview date(which hasn't been easy for most of the others having the same issue) OR You can defer and have all the time to prepare for spring.
