Campaign against Daura’s appDSS DG Lawal Musointment borne out ignorance - Ex DG

A former Director General of Department of State Service (DSS), Afakriya Gadzama, has warned against the ongoing politicization of Alhaji Lawal Musa Daura’s appointment as the DSS boss.
In a press statement issued on Saturday, Gadzama, who was the DG of the service between 2007 and 2010, noted with dismay the ‘unnecessary politicization of what otherwise is an appointment done in the interest of the service.”
The former DSS DG said competence paved the way for the emergence of the new DG of the service.
“Political affiliation was definitely not a factor. What mattered was the competence of the appointee and the need to reposition the service. The president definitely wouldn’t have appointed somebody who doesn’t have the capacity and shares his vision,” he said.
Gadzama said, “It is on record that Alhaji Daura is an experienced officer who has demonstrated exceptional competence throughout his service years. He held several command appointments in volatile states such as Kano, Edo and Borno. His performance in these states was exceptional. He also brought to bear his experience in security practice and management while directing staff in the several DSS training schools.”
Gadzama denied the impression that only serving officers can be appointed Director General of DSS. He described the insinuation as fallacious, and one borne out of ignorance.
“The world over, the head of intelligence and related services are chosen from the pool of serving or retired officers. What matters is the competence of the person to be appointed. The case of Alhaji Daura is therefore perfectly in order,” Gadzama declared.
The appointment of the new DSS DG has come under intense criticism from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which has accused the new DSS boss of being a card carrying member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

I think the issue is over politicized..... at a time when the service was at a very low ebb one would expect the president to put someone who is COMPETENT and TRUSTED in such a sensitive post. Could GMB have seen a competent and TRUSTED person from another geopolitical zone is where the question lies.

If this defence came up from Lai Mohammed d moment PDP raised up this issue d first time; may be just may be d tension it generated might have died down but he rather went for denials and name calling until PDP was able to show in clear terms Mr Daura close ties with d APC hence this mutual suspicion. I v said it severally dat d APC govt will continue to face this image mgt problem if Mr Mohammed continue to act like opposition spokesman

Since the return of democratic rule in 1999, no president has ever appointed a DSS DG outside his own geopolitical zone.

Don't mind the Wailers who are yet to reconcile how their incumbent failure was kicked out by ordinary Nigerians without any friction.

No matter Buhari does, their default setting is to WAIL. Even when their is nothing to cry about, they will just start barking at the trees.

His appointment IS the politics in there. His actions gives credence to this.

Besides who isn't qualified. Even Mrs buhari can be qualified for any post in this country.

Daura's DSS is doing a covert job for the APC and not for the nation. This is what methu is saying. There are lots of evidence on this.

Even if PDP did so in the past, where then is the change in APC if they do same.

You are right Lai Mohammed's denials makes it look as if the appointment is abnormal. HoweverPDP over politicsed the appointment,
