Today I want to talk about the difference between
LCDs, LEDs and Plasma TVs
LCDs(Liquid crystal displays) use fluorescent
lights as illumination to the images on the screen.
The fluorescent lights in an LCD TV are always
behind the screen. Samsung stopped the
production of LCDs and CRTs( Cathode ray tube
TVs) in 2013.
LED(Light Emitting Diodes) TVs are improvements
on LCDs. they make use of diodes to light up the
screen. LED TVs are slimmer and more easily
available, but also more expensive. Most modern
Tvs are LEDs. Samsung's flagship innovation in
2014 curve tv is LED. some have UHD(ultra high
definition) which gives sharper images. Samsung
LEDs come in 23, 24, 32, 40, 46, 48, 50, 55, 65,
75, and 85 inches
Plasma screen TVs , on the other hand, are
believed to have better picture quality (mostly due
to deeper blacks), but are less energy-efficient
and usually available in larger sizes( For
Samsung from 42inches). Hence if you are given
estimated bills in Nigeria, plasma is cool for you,
but if you use prepaid meters...you may want to
go for the more energy efficient LED. While an LED
screen uses light-emitting diodes as backlights
for the screen, plasma screens light themselves
using gas cells that emit ultraviolet light.

The power rating is dependent on the model I.e. the year of manufacture. Older models consume as much as 200W but later models like the "H" series now consume as low as 150W(power consumed by two 60w bulbs and a 30w). The bigger the screen size the more the power consumption.

Protection of Samsung TVs and Home theatres.

Every electronic product has its input voltage level, mostly btw. 110-230v. Anything outside this range would damage parts of the equipment. "Nigerian current" as we call it mostly refers to unreliable power. A moment it is normal, d next it goes very high. This account for over 70% of service issues in the workshop. And most of these repairs are not cheap.

To protect our appliances, surge protector is recommended. Although many so-called surge protectors in the market today as nothing but adapters, hence care shud b taken to get a reliable one. A good voltage regulator will as well b of immense benefit.

Some think that UPS protects their electronics....but thats not true for a basic UPS, Except it has an in build regulator or surge protector. UPS is jst to keep some voltage after power goes.

Power problems are the most common faults in this part of the world, hence i advice the above be considered to save you from spending much on repairs.

oh! fine, the tcon board will cost u 25k. but u have to be sure the tcon pcb is d fault of the tv. better still u plan to bring it for diagnosis.

Ur 25k is steep. Samsung charged me the same amount. Also the card isn't up to $100! Talk to me bro so I can get this tv done...

SCREEN ISSUES

Aside issues with power, Screen issues happen to be the most common fault with LCDS LEDS and plasma tvs.
Most people reading this will be using at least one of the above mentioned tvs. Hence i take this time to talk about screen issues.
Screen issues are said to be d most expensive repair work dat can b carried out on a modern tv. d cost is usually between 65-85% of d cost of the tv. Hence u want to do all to avoid such faults.

Faults with screen are in two categories:
1. physical damage
2. Image distortion

1. Physical damage is a case where d screen cracks as a result of unwelcome impact. all such damage are usually not covered under warranty terms.

2. image distortion: this is a case where d image displayed is not d way it should be. It can be in d form of double or multiple images, line(s) on the sreen, colour patches, negative image etc.

either of these require d screen be replaced in most cases. Although these symptoms may not necessarily b a screen fault.

Physical damage Screen faults can be avoided by carrying ur tvs with great care, trying to avoid children from reaching d screen, proper installation on the wall.
The image distortion can be avoided by making sure water or other solvent does not drip on d screen, and u use ur tv with a surge protector.

Common reasons for power issues

There are a number of reasons for power issues on samsung tvs and home-theatres. There is this common misconception that only high voltages are dangerous. The power system unit(PSU) does now welcome both high and low voltages. this can destroy the unit and lead u into expensive repairs.
