hinwazaka:
Did you just say every crime including financial crimes can compromise national security. So what then was EFCC and also ICPC created for.
The emergence of Boko Haram was primarily the fault of the DSS and defence ministry who failed to notice their transformation from a religious pressure group into a terrorist organization. Prior to their upgrade they were not the concern of the DSS, but rather were within the jurisdiction of the police.
The proper thing that should have been done in the Dasuki affair would have been to handover any materials that show evidence of financial impropriety to the EFCC, and act only on those that constitute a threat to national security. From the look of things it appears they have bungled the case and so have resulted to cheap blackmail and character assassination.

Mynd44:
1. Dasuki's case was one bordering on National security and they went with a warrant. It was during the search they discovered the cars. You might know (I don't think you know anyway) that to own a bulletproof car, you must have been cleared by all National security agencies including the DSS. So they were well within their constraints

2. Still Dasuki. They found on him high powered rifles which no one would have issued licence for. What is that, national security or what?

3. When oil marketers went on strike, the country was all but shut down. I think it is fair if we call our energy sector a national security one. In the USA, the FBI are called in issues of Economics that might threaten internal security or a cartel purposely hiking prices

4. Stop being a clown. When the DSS was used to escort electoral materials, you did not know you were also going to have them involved all through?

5. This is hilarious. The DSS can actually go into any crime scene they want and it is then their choice on whether to intervene or not. No arrests were made and they left them to their issues.

You people make this too easy

Mr bar-canista,your role as a chief wailer is to counter thread that favoured Apc administration,my question is,why don't you reply the hefty allegation made against Jimoh ibrahim?
why don't you open a thread to counter list of debtors published and made public by the banks?
why don't you countre the thread on the success of the military in recent days?
you have not told us anything about the remover of some pdp lawmakers in delta state, why?
you have not say anything about the rejection of dollar deposit by banks?
you have not say anything about the increased in power supply?

The function of DSS as defined by Section 2, sub-section 3 of the National Security Agencies Act, Cap. 74, 2004, is limited to crimes, actions that bothers on the internal security of the country such ie counter terrorism and counter insurgents (eg Boko Haram). Naturally, one expects the DSS under this administration to be more focussed on intelligence gathering, assist the military to end BH, apprehend masterminds of bombings, and fish out sect sponsors. Sadly, the DSS seem to be interested in playing the roles of other agencies(listed below) while neglecting theirs.

1. Playing The EFCC Role:
The EFCC was created to pursue, investigate and prosecute Economic and Financial crimes. However, the press conference by DSS after the search on Dasuki Sambo's house showed that the DSS is so much interested in EFCC's role.

2. Playing The Role of The Army HQ.
It is the duty of the Army to determine who deserves army guards as well as when to withdraw the army guards. However, the DSS seem to be crying more than the bereaved.

3. Playing The Role of Department of Petroleum Resources:
The DPR is statutorily mandated to monitor marketers to ensure that they don't take advantage of consumers of PMS and other products. But a Vanguard report suggest that DSS is the new sheriff in town.

www.vanguardngr.com/2015/07/breaking-news-pump-price-hike-dss-takes-over-monitoring-of-fuel-distribution/

4. Playing The Role of Election Tribunal/Court:
When it comes to election matters, the tribunals/courts determines who wins and who loses, who rigged and who didn't, and who commits so-so offence. But the DSS is clearly interested in the job.

www.nigeriapoliticsonline.com/rigging-allegation-inec-boss-arrested-over-akwa-ibom-poll/

The Akwa Ibom REC was reported to have spent 13 days under the torture of DSS. It was also reported that the DSS invited and detained the INEC REC of Rivers state.

5. Playing The Role of The Police:
The Police is primarily mandated to ensure that there is no breakdown of law and order within Nigeria. However, the DSS is shown interest in their(Police) role when they(DSS) went to PDP National Secretarial in Abuja yesterday.

http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/08/sss-storms-pdp-national-secretariat/

It is important to note that the DSS is yet to parade ANY Boko Haram suspect nor announce any grounding breaking operation with respect to the war against insurgents since May 29, 2015. We hope that the DSS will revert to their mandate and allow others do theirs especially at this time when their expertise is needed the most in the fight against terrorism.
