Good day everyone!

While I was at home reading and at the same time contemplating on what to eat for lunch, my junior sister came back from school where she went to receive lectures for the day.
As I was busy reading and thinking all at once, she did not even enter the house before she started calling my name. I answered with a mild anger due to the effect of hunger hammering my middle-belt region, that was when she relayed her object of curiosity to me.

'She asked; which one is correct between these two englishes: My dad and I is talking and
My dad and I are talking? '

And as a big bro, you guys know now, it will be disorienting to fall her hands tho I gave her little insight that both are actually correct depending on the situations involved. But in the process of correcting her, I myself became confused and was look for a way out so I tried Google-ing it but couldn't find what I need. So I think of a better place to find sure swift answers than Google, that was when Nairaland came to my mind.

Please I need you guy's help to ascertain t correct answer, she has gone out tho, when she comes, she'll be expecting answers.

This is my first post on Nairaland anyways, I know you guys can't fall my hands.

I think it should be I and my Dad are talking but for the sake of the two options I will pick Dad and I are talking.
