The T34, which is to date one of the most effective tanks ever used in war was put into active service during world war 2, but its still being used by some African countries and was reportedly used by Russian seperatists in the invasion of Ukraine .What matters in a tank are factors such as
* operational range
* Armor
* speed
*power/weight
* Engine
This are the strong points used in evaluating or checking the operational strength of a tank not just the year of its commission. The T92 is a light tank known for its speed and compact nature. In a battle that involves guerilla elements, what is needed is speed and not power or gun range
You would need a tank that can keep up with the ever eluding and evasive elements. That was how the T34 was able to outmanoeuvre the tiger tank which was utilised by the German army and known for its strength, power, superior engine and gun range. In the el amenin battle Montgomery used light Sherman tanks to defeat the panzer Tiger tanks which were under the control of one of the most respected tank commanders of all time, Gen Rommel, the fox. Despite Gen Rommel's vast experience and military know how his tanks could not keep up with the light and fast Sherman tanks.
Also FYI: The Iraqis suffered mostly from poor strategies and over reliance on the machine than the man operating the machine. It wasn't due to the inferiority of their tanks. Go and really read up on their incompetent generals.
The fact is that GEJ and Dasuki were spot on in selecting the T92 due to its cost effectiveness and speed

Bros to me it doesn't matter whether the tank is old or young, what matters is why didn't Dasuki show us these weapons when Boko Haram was chasing our military and killing them any how? And how come he is just showing us what he bought as NSA under GEJ?.

Alex Badeh came out to say the military was ill equipped under GEJ, we all saw and heard soldiers mutiny because of lack of weapons, now Dasuki is showing us weapons he bought? Isn't something wrong somewhere?.

We should always ask pertinent questions bros.

don't mind him, he thinks that what makes a tank is its size without considering speed and fire accuracy. In modern war if u want to over come ur enemy u must have speed, thats why in today's army Toyota hilux is favoured instead of heavy military trucks because of its light weight which give its speed both on hard surface and desert surface.

However, I will still fault Dasuki's claims bout purchasing those weapons because I'll ask why didn't he show case them when he was NSA to GEJ? Why and how come he's showcasing them now?.

Guy, weren't you in Nigeria when GEJ begged USA to supply the Nigerian Army (NA) with weapons, and they declined? Have you forgotten that US also put pressure on other Western nations, to turn down our request to buy weapons?

Do you remember that cash had to be flown to South Africa in order to arrange for arms and the SA govt., seized the cash? Do you recall the stress Nigeria went through to get SA to refund the money? Are you aware that there is a backlog when it comes to delivery of some of these specialised weapons: you have to wait until orders for weapons from other countries who pay ahead of you to the manufacturers have been fulfilled, and then such manufacturers will notify you when it is your turn to take delivery?

Do you know that some of these equipment are even made to order and cannot be bought straight off the shelf, (I don't know if the class of equipment supplied to Nigeria falls in this category, though) so you have to wait until the lead time to manufacture them is over, before you can take delivery?

dont mind him saying rubbish. Many countries making use the t72 are having serious problems maintaining it.they keep breaking down even russia is moving from t90 to t14 amatar series.the question is why are we not progressing with tech.there are othe solid and mordern tanks that best siut our immediate needs for now
