oduastates:What is this one blabbing about? Below were the Eastern non -Igbo demands. http://scannewsnigeria.com/news/willink-report-1958-the-following-are-excerpts-from-a-the-report-of-the-commission-appointed-to-enquire-into-the-fears-of-minorities-and-the-means-of-allaying-them-otherwise-known-a/ How exactly did Gowon and Awo meet those demands by creating anomalies called states without a referendum from the people, all in a hurry to get their hands on Eastern region oil wealth. Below was how Biafra was divided and it's in complete tandem with the non Igbo Eastern groups demands. It tallies directly with the willink reports, because the people were Consulted. http://www.kwenu.com/biafra/biafra.htm As a Yoruba man, you should be ashamed of what greed for another man's wealth has caused you lots to do. You shouldn't be here blabbing. Why should the Eastern region share her oil wealth with you parasites? Is it by force? |

"With the war ended, and as a Commissioner in Rivers State, I soon found that the Rivers State for which I had fought did not end my nightmare. In the first place, oil money from Ogoni country (as well as Ijaw country) was being carted away to Lagos, leaving the Ogoni illiterate and backward. This is anti-federalism". We all knew that the parasitic Awo connived with the North in a desperate attempt to get his hands on Eastern region newly discovered oil wealth. You were never neutral like you want the naive ones to believe. A quick look at Awo actions immediately the East was down would prove this, you came to kill destroy and steal . Even those you deceived with your message of liberation saw through your treachery after the war. |

Bamenda left the Eastern region through a referendum, Midwest left the Western region through a referendum. You don't stay in Lagos and divide people without their consent and expect it to stand. A good look at the Willink report would show why the COR agitation would not have succeeded through a plebiscite, many minority groups within the COR agitation feared domination of Ibibio-Annang-Efik and Ijaws. They wanted their own provinces, and that was exactly what Biafra gave them. Gowon and Awo knew this, that's why they resorted to dividing the regions via military fiats and not by the usual referendum. |

Udo-Affiah Yenegoa Chief Frank Opigo ==== Take a look at Biafra provinces. It satisfied all the non Igbo Easteners yearned for in the willink report. 1. It freed the Eastern non Igbo groups from Igbos "domination" by giving them an autonomous province of their own, to be run by the indigenes. 2. It freed the Eastern smaller non Igbo groups from the Ijaw and Ibibio/Annang/Efik " domination" by giving them new provinces away from those two bigger non-Igbo groups. These arrangements were made by the people, the Eastern consultative assembly, not some greedy Odua-Arewa people licking their lips over the Eastern region oil wealth. But he refused and stubbornly pressed on, until a lot of souls were lost. Chai! The documents of your surrender were captured in General Philip Effiong's speech, that gallant & brave soldier. |

"In an authoritative and detailed memorandum on the background, cause and consequences of the Nigerian civil war issued in November 1968 by more than sixty British subjects, including Sir Robert Stapleton, the last British governor of the Eastern region( 1959-60), it was concluded that of the 37 percent of the population which they estimated that minority group represented in Biafra, only 10% would favour continued association with the federal government". "The unprecedented mingling of all groups and settling of many minority people in the Ibo heartland during the course of the war was simply taken for granted. Nonetheless, the Biafran regime was unreservedly committed to plebiscites in any disputed areas within Biafra, or on borders, so that people involved could determine their allegiance. It was proposed that these plebiscites be conducted under international( UN or O.A.U)supervision, and with adequate safeguard against punitive retaliation The federal government rejected the plebiscite proposal, obviously because it implied the recognition of Biafra and the substitution of a democratic vote for force of arms. Had the plebiscite been held, a ceasefire would have had to be declared, neutral observers would have been on scene, and the secession would have been revealed as a people's movement". The New York Review of Books, Volume 14, Number 8. April 23,1970. |

You now see why Gowon and his sidekick Awo scuttled every chance to resolve the Eastern region concerns on round table negotiations. They badly needed to get their hands on the Eastern region oil wealth, things like negotiations, agreements plebiscites, referendums would not get them what they wanted. They wanted war, haven been promised Unlimited weapons supply by the British. But now they would want to re write history before our eyes, the very same people who were shouting "Araba" ( Division/ secession) when they massacred Easterners all over the country, but jettisoned their secession plans and started shouting " one Nigeria", the moment the British intimated them of the value of the Eastern oil wealth they would forfeit should they( the Odua-Arewa) secede? Thunder will fire any Odua-Arewa demon that should ever accuse Ojukwu of starting war, or Igbos of trying to force Eastern non Igbos into Biafra. The sacrosanct facts remain: 1. Gowon and Awo declared war on Biafra out of greed. 2. Biafra was an Eastern region affair, Gowon knew this, that's why he never agreed to any plebiscite on the minorities areas, he knew what the result of such plebiscite would have been. The Eastern non Igbos were deeply entrenched in Biafra, before it all fell apart, and they all left Ndiigbo to bear the blunt alone. |

Nnamdi Kanu has done more to respect those who fought for our land in the civil war than all Biafrans put together. Give respect where it is due. Thank u. |

pazienza:The measure of inconsistency is not be willing to be held to the same standard you expect of others. On one hand you rubbish the creation of states by Gowon without referendum but wholeheartedly accept the division of Biafra without any referendum. Even the declaration of Biafra was not done with any referendum in Iboland or the adjoining minority areas. My advise is just try and be consistent with your standards, it make you look more credible |

pazienza:It is unfortunate that as educated as you are you still come here to repeat tales by moonlight as facts of history. Awolowo resigned from the Gowon government in June 1971, the Indeginsation decree was promulgated in March 1972 and became effective in 1974. The Gowon government had 3 years since Awolowo left the government to show their love to Ibos and reverse the law but did not. If the policy is so central to Awolowo's involvement in government why would he leave even before the policy was even made a law, not to talk of the implementation to the alleged advantage of his people? The advantage we should have as educated people is lost if we come to a forum like this to repeat folklore and pass them as facts without evidence. http://www.africabib.org/rec.php?RID=186577265 |

Ovamboland:Biafra declaration was done by Eastern region consultative assembly consisting of ethnic nationalities from all parts of Biafra. Division of Biafra was done in agreement with political and traditional leaders of those regions and with support of the people as it addressed the issues raised in the Willink report. Gowon turned down the offer of UN supervised plebiscite because he knew his division of the East was illegal without the people's concern at heart. In other hand, Ojukwu was sure his Biafra division met the Eastern people's expectations. Are you aware that the name Biafra was suggested at the Eastern consultative assembly meeting by Frank Opigo, who became the administrator of Biafran Yenegoa province? |

Ovamboland:I never brought up the "indigenization" program yet your guilty conscience made you bring it out. If you want to read about the indigenization policy and it's Igbophobic implications, be my guest: https://junglejournalist./2012/10/13/the-greatest-heist-in-modern-history-by-awolowo-and-the-yorubas-known-as-indigenization-of-foreign-companies-in-nigeria-by-frederick-onwumbiko/ I was talking about the siting of key oil companies Headquarters and Parastatals in Lagos rather than PH. Your Awo had hands in that. If he didn't, then show me where he( Awo) the self proclaimed liberator of Eastern non Igbo groups spoke out against those moves when the Minorities cried out? |

Finally, I entered this thread to clear two Igbophobic propaganda hatched and propagated by the Odua-Arewa, that Oduastates, was spreading on this thread. 1. That the Igbos forcefully annexed the non Igbo parts of the defunct Eastern region, against their ( non Igbos) wish. I had disproved and sent this Yoruba lie to hell, as I had shown that Ojukwu was always willing to let Nigeria have a UN supervised plebiscite in the non Igbo speaking areas of the East, an offer which Gowon turned down cos a British intelligence report had already intimated him that only few non Igbos would vote to stay in Nigeria, in other words, the non Igbo groups became part of Biafra by their own volition, Gowon and Awo knew this, yet they kept spreading the Igbophobic propaganda of Igbos forcing the Eastern minorities into Biafra, talk of dishonorable men leading an anomalous country. 2. The Igbos had an agenda to take the Eastern oil wealth from the non - Igbos and refused granting the Eastern non Igbo groups a region of their own. This is another false Yoruba propaganda. Through willink report, I had shown why creation of COR wouldn't have materialized under a plebiscite, the Eastern region smaller non- Igbo groups wanted freedom from not just the Igbos, but from the Ijaw and the Ibibio-Annang-Efik. Biafra provinces provided that, giving all Biafrans their autonomy and right to control their fates, much more effective than abominations called states that Gowon- Awo greed led them to create, Gowon couldn't care about the smaller Eastern region groups agitations for a separate existence outside the big two minorities, he came for exploitation, creating more states for those minorities was in direct conflict to his exploitation plans?he needed as few states as possible in the East. Igbos couldn't have possibly exploit the non Igbos when Biafra ensured all got a province of their own, to control their destiny. Each Biafran province had an indigenous administrator, for example, the PH province had an Ikwerre administrator. |

pazienza:Er.. provide your sources please, and please post links to those reports carrying this info., so we can all read and verify especially the part containing Gowon's refusal of the plebiscite. ![]() The appointment of a person from a district to supervise the affairs of that district means nothing. such a candidate may not even be liked, respected or wanted by his people. Afterall, Opigo and others like him were not elected by their people, to direct their affairs. Any of them could have been an Ojukwu stooge, dancing to the tune of their paymasters. Were each of these units/districts self-accountable, and did they get to keep all the revenue accruing from their area to themselves, or did they still have to surrender such revenue to Ojukwu's administration?? |

pazienza:I'm glad that you are writting this because the present crop of Nigerian youths in their 20's,30's and even some in their 40's don't know a single thing about the history of Nigeria and this is a tragedy. More than 80% of all Nigerians cannot articulate the cumulative chain of events that led to the war from the 1964 elections to end of the war. Many do not know what the eastern Nigerian consultative assembly was or the part they played in in giving Ojukwu the mandate representing the 20 provinces of the Eastern region to declare Biafra. The entire civil war was just one concerted attempt to get at the Oil wealth of the Eastern region, nothing more. Nigeria was a fraud then, it is fraud now, it will always be a fraud until sovereignty is returned to the people. Awolowo and Gowon were just co-travellers in a state craft of deciet. Both men should have being arraigned at The Hague for the monumental and duplicitous fraud they committed in the name of "One Ngeria". Oh well, the good thing is that the future is more important than the past. In the future, we shall correct the wrongs of the past. |
