HOW AND WHO MURDERED LT. BENJAMIN N. EDIM: THE INFAMY OF THE NIGERIAN ARMY. Lt. B. N. Edim was a fine gentleman, dedicated in all his endeavors. To family and to his work which until his murder was uncompromising in his duties. He was allegedly shot dead on Sunday 26th July, 2015 at 12.30pm by soldiers of the 144 Battalion Asa, Abia State who were supposed to be his subordinates and his cover in an operation to rescue an unknown kidnapped victim at Ogunabor LGA in Abia State. Before his gruesome murder he was the (Head of Admin) at 144 Battalion Asa, Abia State, as a result of this position he was well known by all officers and soldiers serving in the battalion. He had diligently served in the North Eastern State of Nigeria, Borno State in the concerted effort to quell the insurgency that has ravaged the State and was recently deployed to Abia State having served beyond the rotational period and extensively in the North East. A development his family and 10 months old wife applauded. Information gathered from a broken hearted, good spirited officer within the barracks who pleaded anonymity, revealed that Lt. B. N. Edim was generally viewed by most of his colleagues as been too dedicated, strict and uncompromising in the discharge of his lawful official assignments. Authorities at 144 Battalion Asa, Abia State informed the family of the deceased that Lt. B. N Edim was allegedly shot dead by his own soldiers because he was not recognized by his own soldiers at an operation in which he was the one who deployed the soldiers to the said assignment. By virtue of his position as Adjutant, Lt. B. N Edim was entitled to a driver but his driver was no where to be found when the operation was to be embarked upon. Hence, he drove himself to the venue of the operation where he met the ground troops already awaiting his arrival. It was reliably gathered within the battalion that the driver was deliberately sent out before the deceased could have wind of his whereabouts. Some observations that are inconsistent with the story of the military are thus: *How friendly is a 'friendly-fire' when it is shot in a rapid succession thereby discharging 6bullets in broad daylight, by the force who are supposed to be kitted in a unique outfit reserved for the army? Hardly a mistaken identity. *12.30pm is broad daylight, no incidents of rainfall, in an environment which is not a dense forest or a rainforest, how then was the killer's visibility? *The Army which maintains a separate intelligence unit do not engage conventional army in undercover operations, how could the shooter not recognize the uniform of his Superior? *The Army is an elite unit of highly trained personnel whom are aware of the dangers of handling a rifle, as such, they owe a strict duty of care to everyone, thus, in an operation where only the deceased took 6shots, did the shooter shoot on impulse at the twitch of his finger? There are no accounts of exchange of fire with the kidnappers. *Is a REGULAR ROUTINE in a kidnap operation similar to a war operation? Is there not a standard operating procedure, rules of engagement? Are there no fears that the kidnapped may be used as a shield, as such, if shot it undermines the rescue intended? Is there no calculation regards collateral damage in such an area inhabited by people? *The term fragging is associated with the crime of subordinates murdering their superiors when the standards are strict, it is a mutinous strategy that involves murder. The deceased was highly moral and uncompromising. He is said to refuse grafts and gifts. In society as Ogunabor LGA in Abia State which is fraught with crime, monies are paid so that authorities would turn a blind eye to these heinous crimes. It is obvious that the deceased will not compromise and thus stood for the highest of moral and disciplinary standards, was this not the motive? *Why was one of the kidnappers shot in the leg and the officer leading the operation shot six times at deliberate vital parts that are sure to only one outcome, death? THESE AND MANY OTHER QUESTIONS BEG FOR ANSWERS. WITH AGED PARENTS AND A YOUNG BRIDE IN HER FINAL SEMESTER TO BE GRADUATED AND BE UNITED AS FAMILY, FRIENDS ARE DEVASTATED AND DISTURBED. WHILE THE AUTHORITIES ARE YET TO EXPLAIN, WE INDULGE THE CONCIOUS NIGERIAN PUBLIC TO SAVE OTHER NOBLE AND UPRIGHT SERVICE MEN WHO WOULD NOT YIELD TO THE FANCIES OF MEN BUT UPHOLD THEIR SWORN OATH TO SERVE AND TO PROTECT OUR DEAR COUNTRY. LET US RID NIGERIA THE BLACK SHEEP AND BAD EGGS IN THE SOCIETY AND THE UPPER ECHELONS OF POWER AND AUTHORITY WHO WOULD GO TO ANY EXTENT FOR SELF AGGRANDIZEMENT. THEY CONSPIRE AND KILL AND COVER. LEND YOUR VOICE TO THIS CALL AND SEND #RESEND #BROADCAST #REBROADCAST THIS MESSAGE. TALK ABOUT IT AND DO NOT HESITATE TO REPORT ANY ACT OF ASININE CONSPIRACIES THAT MAY SAVE SOMEONE. EVIL THRIVES WHEN GOOD PEOPLE DO NOTHING, KINDLY REBROADCAST TILL IT GETS TO THE APPROPRIATE EARS. BESIDES BEING A NIGERIAN, HE WAS MARRIED FROM PLATEAU STATE. The DAILY SUN, 5th August, 2015. Rest in peace Lt. These things happen everyday even in para-military establishments;non-corrupt officers get fragged a lot. 2 years ago, my dept handled a similar case, but the ogas @ da top refuse to investigate it. |
