Y'all really think the Army will do anything about this? I laugh in Swahili cheesy

The Army protects it's own like no other. These men will only be told to be careful next time when punishing a civilian. And to also make sure no one is allowed to snap pictures.

The military and other agencies in Nigeria must wake up and come to terms with the fact that Nigeria of ten years ago is different from that of today. What we saw in that picture occur everyday in Nigeria but they are coming up with this statement because they are caught and the world is watching. A formal statement or condemnation of this horrible act by President Muhammadu Buhari will send a strong message to officers who abuse civilians that they will face the music if they are caught.

Whoever took the picture and even the media outlet that published it should be commended and encouraged.

Kudos to the paper that brought this depressing sight to the public. The Army keeps denying what's clearly the norm within its institution.
Don't mind them. They are upset that the picture was publicized. We have a very undisciplined, unprofessional military.

The Nigerian military has reacted to a photo published on the front page of Daily Trust newspaper today which showed a soldier torturing a man in Mararaba, Nassarawa state over the weekend. According to a statement by the army, the soldiers have been identified and will face disciplinary actions. The army press statement below...

The attention of Nigerian Army has been drawn to a front page photograph of some soldiers maltreating a suspected robber at Mararraba, Nasarawa State, on the front page of today’s edition of Daily Trust newspaper. Sadly, it is also trending on the Social Media. There is no doubt the photograph has done incalculable damage to the image of the service. The act was unfortunate and at variance with military ethics and professionalism.
The Nigerian Army wishes to inform the public that the perpetrators of the offence have been identified, summoned and would face disciplinary action.he Army has also reached out to the management of the newspaper over this poor and worrisome editorial judgement by giving this misdemeanour prominence in their paper. Alerting appropriate Nigerian Army authorities would have been a better option that will be met with prompt response. We wish to assure the public that the Nigerian Army would continue to protect and respect human rights and that this regrettable incidence should not be used as a yardstick to judge the entire Army.

I know of countless occasions where civilians where brutalised by the Nigerian army and nothing was done when they lodged any form of complaint to the appropriate authorities. I was almost a vicitm of bullying by amry men in kaduna, I stood my ground and by God's grace I scaled through. If that newspaper or magazine contacted the Army first, they won't be promptly attended to. They would be made to undergo rigorous protocol, until they re exhausted. Many have been victimised and nothing was done. Nigerian Militia buckle up!!! If you re out to protect lives, why then join the police in destroying and wasting lives? The military in Europe are hardly heard of, yet they re very powerful.

Just look at the retard yanning dust about how the paper erred by publishing the said pictures as opposed to sending the info to them. Who knows if they would have acted on the info given to them without a little pixel push huh

A picture is worth a thousand words as they say Mr. Soldier, so don't hate, appreciate. Don't condemn them, but applaud them for bringing the situation into the fore front for public debate and consumption, mtcheew undecided
The only language they understand is to bring such to the public fore, if not, they will not act upon it. Kudos to the paper...more power to your elbow.

Thanks joor. Just within the past two weeks, we've seen at least two of such extremely degrading handling of defenseless civilians, and these guys keep pandering to themselves. The Nigerian Army is a deeply indisciplined institution.

And instead of simply identifying and committing their offenders to discipline, they are also talking of being embarrassed by the paper that did the sensible thing.

deadzone no,if that guy is truly an armed robber,he deserves that treatment and more..had it been he wasnt strlpped and tortured but shot straight in the head, what wud ppl have said or done?
Oga, even sanity of life must be protected no matter what. There should be dignity for humans in our societies even if an robber is caught.
This is what separate a barbaric society from civilised society.
Do you think they have armed robbery cases in the western world? But they do not go about stripping people naked (even in the presence of minors) or carrying mod actions (such as beaten with club, putting pepper into woman's vagina, using tyre and petrol to burn human being alive) against alleged or red handed caught criminals.
We must rise above emotional and sentimental bondages in carry about our daily activities and civic duties.
