The Nigerian military has reacted to a photo published on the front page of Daily Trust newspaper today which showed a soldier torturing a man in Mararaba, Nassarawa state over the weekend. According to a statement by the army, the soldiers have been identified and will face disciplinary actions. The army press statement below... The attention of Nigerian Army has been drawn to a front page photograph of some soldiers maltreating a suspected robber at Mararraba, Nasarawa State, on the front page of today’s edition of Daily Trust newspaper. Sadly, it is also trending on the Social Media. There is no doubt the photograph has done incalculable damage to the image of the service. The act was unfortunate and at variance with military ethics and professionalism. The Nigerian Army wishes to inform the public that the perpetrators of the offence have been identified, summoned and would face disciplinary action.he Army has also reached out to the management of the newspaper over this poor and worrisome editorial judgement by giving this misdemeanour prominence in their paper. Alerting appropriate Nigerian Army authorities would have been a better option that will be met with prompt response. We wish to assure the public that the Nigerian Army would continue to protect and respect human rights and that this regrettable incidence should not be used as a yardstick to judge the entire Army. Thank you. Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman Acting Director Army Public Relations http://www.metronaija.com/2015/08/army-reacts-to-photo-of-soldiers.html cc: lalasticlala ishilove 29 Likes 3 Shares |

If them see boko haram them go run hide say them no give them better weapon. as if the weapons boko haram are using are from transformer age of extinction.. the names of those soldiers should be published and they should be striped of all their rankings and sentenced \to death. a disgrace.. this is the reason why the USA and other advance countries cant help Nigeria with weapons.. it would result to more ABUSE. 165 Likes 13 Shares |

Kudos to the paper that brought this depressing sight to the public. The Army keeps denying what's clearly the norm within its institution. There's no denying the fact the Nigerian Army is a largely indisciplined institution, whose forces have an unquenchable appetite for civilian brutality and denigration. I believe as we keep displaying their gross Indiscipline and utter disrespect for fundamental human rights, they will be forced to be more serious with this issue rather than keep replaying the same mundane rhetorics every time it's forces are found wanting. 127 Likes 4 Shares |

Just look at the retard yanning dust about how the paper erred by publishing the said pictures as opposed to sending the info to them. Who knows if they would have acted on the info given to them without a little pixel push A picture is worth a thousand words as they say Mr. Soldier, so don't hate, appreciate. Don't condemn them, but applaud them for bringing the situation into the fore front for public debate and consumption, mtcheew 96 Likes 3 Shares |

Very good. The credit should go to the smart person who snapped the picture unnoticed. That does not mean we should attempt to take photographs in the presence of soldiers. He was very lucky not to have been caught, else... 6 Likes |

Patrick Leahy, an American Senator who sponsored the Leahy Law says that President Muhammadu Buhari should not blame the United States for not choosing to support the Nigerian Army. The Leahy amendment prohibits the US Department of State and Department of Defence from providing military assistance to foreign military units that violate human rights with impunity. Owing to the fact that the Nigerian military has been accused of alleged human rights crimes in its war against Boko Haram, the United States had refused to give the country the required assistance. Weeks ago some of you here on nairaland castigate, bashing Leahy for his comments on why USA will not Nigeria on terrorism acts. You see reasons now Our Army are animals they treat civilian as criminals. I wish the army involved meet there waterloo . 5 Likes |
