Bianca Ojukwu - Miss Intercontinental, 1989 (later resigned, ceding title to Brenda Marte Lajara from the Dominican Republic)

In December 1988, Odumegwu-Ojukwu was crowned Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria, but reigned for most of 1989, during which she represented her country in Miss World and Miss Universe, but achieved greater success at Miss Africa 1988 as well as Miss Intercontinental 1989 and was named Miss Congeniality at the now defunct Miss Charm International in Russia where she was also a semi-finalist.

She resigned from her reigning title as pageant queen due to the controversy surrounding her relationship with Ojukwu.

Beautiful thread. I just love Igbo people! Can't wait to see Biafran national sport teams. We will dominate!

Bianca is an epitome of beauty!

Due to the political landscape in Eastern Nigeria (Ikwerre vs Igbo), I would have to exclude him from this list.

Great writer and novel, regardless.
Why are you excluding him from the list and what is this Ikwere vs Igbo? You mean you cannot tell if Elechi Amadi is an Igbo man or not? Listen brother, the Ikwere people speak Igbo as their ancestral language, they have Igbo surnames. What else makes a person Igbo?

I'd rather not get into this argument.

To avoid unnecessary controversy this is where it ends.

Aba Craftsmen and Designers

Often derided and seldom appreciated, this army of shoe, bags, accessories and clothings designers comprise West Africa's largest indigenous creators of mass produced, affordable wears. It remains to be seen as to whether this is an opportunity for a front business man who can take this potential to the next level.

Cyprian Ekwensi.

Arguably Nigeria's most prolific writer. Hardly mentioned when talking about the literary greats but one cannot deny that his books have played a considerable role in shaping any part of Nigeria's literati.

Fast-paced stories that are set in diverse locales in the country irrespective of origin.

Notable books include Jagua Nana, An Africa's Night Entertainment, Burning Grass, The Passport of Mallam Illia.
So much love Cyprian's work and that of Ngugi Wa Thiong'o like. Hardly ever felt he was an igbo. Literature like sport is an excellent unifying factor in Nigeria. Those illiterate that do not read are apt to shout Biafra without recourse to sound reasons.

Chike Obi, Mathematician.

Chike Obi (April 17, 1921 – March 13, 2008) was a Nigerian politician, mathematician and professor.

The African Mathematics Union suggests that he was the first sub-Saharan African to hold a doctorate in mathematics. Dr. Obi's early research dealt mainly with the question of the existence of periodic solutions of non-linear ordinary differential equations. He successfully used the perturbation technique, and several of his publications greatly helped to stimulate research interest in this subject throughout the world and have become classics in the literature.

Obi is the author of several books and journals on mathematics and Nigerian politics.

If we are lieing to measure up with the Yorubas as you rightly put it, why would this same Yourbas be crying for we, the Igbos, to opt out of the city we contributed a great deal in developing? By so doing, who is afraid of who knowing fully well that they are better than them in all ramifications that's why they're afraid of loosing their lands to a tribe with more educational, business and political acumen. The truth isn't far fetched. On carefully analysis of the novel,"There was a country" by our very own Father of African Literature, Late Sir Chinua Achebe, one not only discovers the "Truth" but also gets to know that "Truly Speaking There Was A Country".

Lalasticlala I plead with you in the name of God, do the needed.

SS people? What's this so called SS people? SS is just a term the Abacha Government came up with. It is not the name of a people. How do you identify an Igbo person? Is it by the language or surname? I'm from Anambra, I speak Igbo as my ancestral language and I have an Igbo surname, am I Igbo? The Ikwere Man speaks Igbo as his language and has an Igbo name, is he Igbo? Next thing you will tell me that the Ikwere are not Igbo because Abacha came up with the name South-South.

This is far from the end of it! You conveniently termed some Igbo or decendants of Igbos as Igbo then when you came to an Ikwere man who has an Igbo name and speaks Igbo as his first language, suddenly, you don't knows who is Igbo and who is not. This is pure deceit! You must add everything, Delta-Igbo, Ikwere-Igbo,Etche-Igbo,Anioma-Igbo,Igbanke-Igbo and everything Igbo. Don't play this sort of game here.

Igbo sounding names? Igbo sounding language. Nonsense. The first time I was in Ikereland I understood everything they said, infact, I understand Ikwere-Igbo even better than Abakiliki-Igbo. Some Ikwere people say they not Igbo but we all know it's about the politics of Oil.

But he testified against Igbos in Oputa Panel, realized his mistakes and wanted to make up besides we don't want anybody to tag us "people grabbers" because those we have are enough for us.
