Osun Stakeholders Drag Aregbesola Before EFCC, Submit Petition by erunz(m): 9:28am On Aug 11, 2015
A group, Osun Stakeholders, on Monday in Lagos delivered to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) a petition against the Osun State governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, urging the anti-graft agency to investigate an alleged financial recklessness of the governor in the last five years.
The petition dated August 10, 2015 and submitted at the EFCC’s Lagos office was titled: “Petition against Governor Rauf Aregbesola for financial recklessness, corruption, money laundering and fraudulent application of Osun State’s resources,” was signed by the conveners of the group, Messrs Niyi Owolade and Yinka Odumakin and addressed to the commission’s chairman.
In the petition, a copy of which was made available to newsmen after it was submitted by Odumakin at the Commission’s Lagos office, the group called for a forensic audit of the Osun government accounts.
The group, which bemoaned the series of loans obtained by the Aregbesola’s government, said that the petition was borne out of the resolution reached at its stakeholder’s summit held on July 23, 2015.
Part of the petition read: “It is instructive to note that after the summit on Osun State on July 23, where the whistle was blown, Rauf Aregbesola gave another figure through one of his aides, Mr Semiu Okanlawon, now claiming that Osun State got N177 billion from Federation Account (not N108 billion again) and N27 billion Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) (against N43 billion verifiable) totalling N204 billion instead of N317 billion.
“Governor Aregbesola, three years ago, launched with fanfare, a computer project called Opon Imo through which N8.4 billion was squandered, yet there is no tablet in operation in the state, till today.
“We are also aware that while salaries of members of staff remain unpaid, Governor Aregbesola has been drawing security votes in the region of N502 million every month. We request that these votes be audited to determine if same is truly being spent on security.
“In view of the foregoing, it is clear that Rauf Aregbesola has mortgaged the future of the state. It is, therefore imperative that the EFCC get to the root of the financial scam committed by Aregbesola’s government.
“It might be necessary to unveil the companies, who are beneficiaries of the white elephant projects embarked upon with these loans.”
Addressing newsmen thereafter, Odumakin, assured that the group was poised to ensure that the EFCC wade into the alleged corruption, financial recklessness, among other vices that had characterised the regime of Aregbesola by investigating the governor and bring him to justice.

Osun state governor is a classic example of ''How not to govern a State''. The guy wasted funds on frivolities and welfarist ventures instead of investing in capital projects to boost revenue generation.
