@shyee How many PhD programs did you apply to? If you applied to just one school then that's a gambler's move! You should apply to 4-5 schools if you really want to get into a PhD program..

Hi guys just help me to thank God for his divine favor in my life o it's a miracle
Applied for trv 28 February got refused 30 march 2015. After much prayer and fasting I applied again with advise from people in the house like team 12. On the day of submission the devil came and defaced my passport photograph I submitted like dat on the 30th of July and just today I got the call for medicals 11th of August 1week and three days interval. With God all things are possible May He also provide for all those waiting for there medicals or visa

LOVINA1245:

best bet.. get down here lodge a day or two (book online hi-vancouver central or hi-jericho abt 45CAD/nyt) . surf craigslist and check d apts out yrself. cheapest room so far is 450CAD/month.. thats if u wanna stay in kits. if u wanna stay offcampus 600CAD. dnt worry abt daily transport cost.. ubc will issue u a compass card dt allows u transit in the city at no personal cost. come with kingsize raincoats. rain is vancouvers hobby. food here is on d high side.. fruits cheap.

Wow! Lovina1245 you're a blessing! Thank you for the all these info. I checked Hi-Jericho before now price for a night was quite low but my worry was that it is dormitory setting thus I was trying to imagine how one would secure luggage. And also the proximity to school since it is 3.4km to UBC. What do you think about St. Andrew's housing? Thank you for the hint about raincoat and food ;-)

Wow, that's a quick turnaround. Don't stop praying though as these days some people get delayed after medicals. You are likely to be approved though if you sufficiently addressed the "insufficient funds" issue.

you really are an eye opener, i am about contacting the MUN's dean of engineering office if i qualify for a MAsters by research programme, if possible i will use that to buttress my creds. from your last response that will give more credibility to my purpose of visit, right?
in actuality, i just wanna move...

I am not sure, but i could try and help you find out but will cost you packs of gala
Please do so sire.. Or can I book a connecting flight to PEI on getting to Toronto

BTW what province are you staying?
Re: Travelling To Canada Part 8 by thesoj: 10:28pm On Aug 11, 2015
Yes that will buttress your creds, although the PhD would boost your cred significantly and would up your visa chances much much more. Just wanting to leave Naija forever (lol) is ok, the VOs know that; however, they don't want an applicant who won't leave Canada should he/she not be able to legally stay there after studies (I was reading this on some obscure CIC website). This is why you need to prove to the VO that you are not desperate and that you have something to come back to in Nigeria. You will appear desperate if your studies don't show progression. A PhD would solve this problem. A research masters is 50:50 (since you already have a masters), but as long as you can explain clearly in your SOP your chances are infinitely better than with a diploma.

Btw, if you really want to move out of Naija then I'm surprised you haven't read enough of this thread to find the answers to all your questions (no offense o, just being real smiley ). I would recommend you read from page one of Part 8; this would help a lot! If you have questions after reading, do not hesistate to ask from the many helpful people here. Cheers.

Edited: if you can get into a PhD program in Canada, you should totally consider it. Even if you decide to not finish it, you should be able to leave the program with a research masters after two years (at least this is how it is done in many US Phd programs in the sciences and engineering).

Oh really!!!! and how exactly did you come to this conclusion? as there are peeps from late may and early june who are yet to get a decision on their application.

Dude, your question about taking a bus has been answered. @Fhemmmy and I wrote about it after your initial post.
On getting a connecting flight, Google is your friend no offense smiley. Just search "flight from Toronto to Charlottesville Prince Edward Island" for the easy answer.

Edited: Ok I get your second question now. You should probably book a connecting flight from Toronto to Charlottesville before you leave Naija. If you book it when you land in Toronto, then the ticket would be super expensive! Plus, the immigration officers might give you trouble if they realize you don't have a ticket to your school; you would have to convince them that you indeed have the intention of going to school. Pardon the initial misunderstanding of your question.

grin grin grin
thanks for the time thesoj. my findings on this thread informed my decision subliminally.
i might have been a gambler...and to your toast i am playing Kenny Rogers song- the Gambler. grin
i had a 2.2 in my undergrad, i guess that was why my PhD aplication was not competitive enough(that was the reason given to me my application was rejected) at MUN, despite my 67.12% for my Masters.
i chose MUN due to her cheapness compared to other provincial universities (still open to advice from those who might be/have been in my shoe)... i suppose i could with the help of you guys put up a competitive SOP if i could secure an admission for a Masters by research. cheesy wink
