We can pretend like it’s nothing
We can go on living like we never met
We can live, trying to forget all about us
And the little time we shared.
We can pretend it never mattered
Go on forcing our minds to stop
When we remember and see each other in our minds eyes
We can, yes we can.
But lo… In the end
When the dust settles and the hustle ends
When we breathe deep and easy
Deep beneath the hard crust of our beings
And the realities we live
We both know
The rush, the pomp, when we forget all but the grips of our passion
We had the best time of our lives together.
Did we have it all planned out? Definitely not
Perhaps we could have been… Perhaps not
Ambitions, Emotions, Aspirations – they blind us both
Now you’d said yes – I’m broken
Still, soon you’d say I do – I’m weak
… Still I’d watch on, lost still amongst the fiery drive for self-worth
Angel eyes, Lips like Sugar… I let a jewel slide.
And now . . . we grieve in denial, in our different ways
Try to drown out the other in the oceans of our present lives.
