I asked this question on my own thread but haven't received any response yet. This is the exact question below. Hope someone talks to me :

" I want to study in the US but I'm in dilemma as to which course (major) I'm to study that would be beneficial when I come back here to Nigeria. I wanted to study Psychology but from the reviews from American students and graduates, they say Psychology isn't a very good major in USA owing to the fact that it has one of the lowest paid salaries and high unemployment rate. Can a Psychology degree be useful in Nigeria for me? If not, what course would you advise me to study that would have a high ROI?
Note : I don't think I can do any Engineering"

U said beneficial when u come back to Nigeria, make up ur mind 1st and if u want to stay over there look for a good course with better opportunity

OK. I would really love to remain there but one don't have to put all eggs in one basket, that's why I'm looking for courses that would still be profitable if by chance I find myself back to Nigeria. But what is my chances of remaining in the US after my 4-year US visa expires?

OK, whichever. My question is what are my chances that I can remain there after my undergrad program?

Let me correct you of the hogwash reviews you've seen from the American reviewers. This is a field that you can practice without working for anyone. The downside is that the least level of degree in psychology expected to self practice in U.S is PhD or PsyD. Some other professions have raised the bar too. Starting this year, Nurse practitioners who want to practice must have a doctrate degree. Many of them American reviewers can't study to this advanced level, so they tend to give such crazy reviews after they couldn't do anything tangible with their BS or MS in psychology. Most of them will like to compare the salary of a psychologist with that of a MD.

My wife is a doctorate student in clinical psychology in her 3 of 5 years. Currently she's a student psychologist in HIV unit of Harlem Hospital for a 1 year unpaid externship. She got few other places too (including United States department of veterans affairs) during the search but for resume purpose and prospect of job in hospital/healthcare, she chose the HH.

Back to you, as an international student, prospect of job might be shaky (the same thing for other professions including sciences) and if you won't like to get to the PhD or PsyD level, just forget about studying psychology. But for someone like her who's an American, heaven is her limit because she can practice on her own immediately after her degree. And as once an international student like you who knows how labor market treats international students after studying and what's up in Nigeria, I would advised you to just face your front.... except you want to reach the last level too and don't plan working in Nigeria.

For your research on how psychologists can work on their own for a good pay, check this link I just forwarded to wifey: http://news.yahoo.com/officials-man-posed-doctor-treated-patients-basement-002002279.html?soc_src=mediacontentstory&soc_trk=fb

Next step Masters, As long as you are registered for classes, and you paid for them, you will always be in status, till you get married to a citizen, or some other route. Or you can always renew your visa outside the US

I see. You don't want be in such mess. In such situation, you will be asked to pay child support until the child reaches 18 yrs old, a few default in payment can earn you up to 1 year rent free shared room in state/federal prison. http://www.legalmatch.com/law-library/article/consequences-of-not-paying-child-support.html

For more research on implication of child support, check on google "Why did Walter Scott run from the police"
Na joke I dey sha. More of a globe trotter wannabe and even a green card can't hold me down.

One of my guys that enlisted into the ROTC air force division was told that he has to renounce his Nigerian citizenship. Ain't there a way to go around that clause?
