Mogidi: And then juxtapose that with the paltry allocation for Science and Technology, you'll have an idea that Nigerian shall remain a Third World nation for the next decades. Our priorities determine our destiny! 1 Like 1 Share |

This explains why our democracy is soaked in blood. Every politician aspires to that pinnacle, its a matter of do or die for them. |

[quote author=GreenWhiteGreen post=37083592]Honestly, they worth it. But we Nigerians don't understand. [/quote Mr GreenWhiteGreen can you then explain to me and I'm sure others, why a senator or house of representative member should be paid such amount of money when the majority of masses they work for live on less than $1day? Please cause I really will like to undertsand why they are worth it. |

If there is any ounce of fear of God in our leaders NASS basic salary + allowance should only be 20% more than a permanent secretary in FG. Newspaper allowance should be scrapped. there should be a budget that covers information dissemination for NASS as a whole. if you feel compelled to read the newspaper buy your own or browse the internet on your own data or data provided by the NASS intranet !!!!!. Representing your constituency is a sacrifice not a means for relaxation, sober reflecting and big manisims. The number of aides a senator requires to assist in carrying our his or her duties is ridiculous. These aides should be paid partly from the pocket of the Senators and Reps and also their political party. Constituency allocations should not be handed directly to the Senators but should be allocated thru an independent body that issues out the allocations based on the needs of the Senators and reps, this body will also publish how the allocations have been spent and bills sponsors by each senator or rep on the internet and local dailies on a quarterly basis. That way we will all know who is there for the betterment of our Great Nation and who is there for a jolly. it will also stop the rouges from looking at politics as a means to enrich themselves and encourage those of us who are solely interested in serving the people. wishful thinking. The foundation of our politics is so rotten. 1 Like 1 Share |

And folks this is where we as a country have totally fooled ourselves. An example: The cost of the US congress ( senators an reps) = US$804 mln p.a. The cost of the Nigerian Congress =approx US$ 360mln. Note however that the US has 535 members to 466 for Nigeria. When you pro rata it works Nigerian lawmakers make about half................. but wait a minute................... US GDP 17.4 trillion, Nigeria 1.04 trillion, almost 17 times. Average wage US 44,888, Nigeria US 1100. All this in a country where our police men take bribe NOT because they want to but because they dont get paid well if at all. Teachers are frowned upon and our kids sit on dirt floors with no windows. Our leaders should be ashamed of themselves, and if PMB is truly a man of the people like he said, he should put an end to this raping of the country. 2 Likes |

I dont understand why the allowances of our Senators/rep are not taxed. I just hope that is not true. When every kobo I earn from salary to allowances are taxed heavily! I pray it is not true. |

MKO4ever: Guy na where u dey when God dey share sense? Mikel sweat his ass out week in week out while the only thing our senators do is 'if you are in support say 'hi' if not say 'nay'....'the nays have it' some have never passed a bill for over six years yet you come here and support them. The rate at which dullardness is growing in Nigeria is really alarming and your contribution to this growth is highly noteable. 2 Likes |
