frodobee:It was never as much as 1.2m a day. Figures bundled around were between 200- 400,000 a day. Whe it gets to below 50,000 or even 10,000 a day, the navy can claim victory |

Are they not ashamed to call the simple distillation using drum, pipe and firewood, "refineries" ? If the villagers can use drums, pipes, cold water and firewood to boil crude oil and separate the charf from the products why cant the government expand on that idea and tax them ? Oh, this is Nigeria, where the rich must 'eat' the poor. No one will love to sit in the mud and cook crude oil if he has alternatives. |

Only if this is not just to paint the picture of "we are working" tru the media. I don't believe these people will turn their back on money making business just because of their uniform, and my reason is, very close to me here they have their base and at the same time, vandals base is just at a stone throw. SMH seriously! |

Barcanista should be counting, these are some of the achievement of Buhari that his hero that almost sold out Nigeria to his cronies cannot boast of for his 6years reign. |

I am not happy with successive governments in this country. We are clamouring for technological development and improvement but those we know that have the know how re scared away by the government. I'm not supporting this illegal acts but the gov't should gather these that know how to and put them to work and in no distant time we'll have our home based refinery builders instead of depending on foreign technology which may not be fitting with our structural peculiarities. |

Sunnycliff:Who told u these guys are ready to pay for crude? Are ready to register company and pay tax, are ready to abide by environmental laws, are ready to employ and abide by labour laws, are ready to compensate appropriately those injured or killed in their operations, are ready play by the rules which govern a civil society! They are not ready to do business the right way. Simple. And they therefore cannot be allowed to pose a threat to other worthy investors that employs a lot of people, and cannot be allowed to destroy the environment because they are the ones that will come around later to cry foul, and they definitely cannot be allowed to risk the lives of people by their crude and illegal operations. But asides all these, the federal govt needs to urgently do a lot to mop up all the idle hands that will be created by this their crackdown, otherwise there will be a serious surge in Armed robbery and brigandage. |

bushdoc9919:Yes I agree with tax payment. But this is a nascent technology that can be harnessed for GDP increase. I understand the EIA aspects of it but the government can give them the requisite training for increased productivity and employment generation in a legalized way. |

Freemanan:1)Illegal refineries demolition isn't new and won't end anytime soon unfortunately...Because it pays both for military, politicians and other interest groups in that sector... 2)Sometime in Jonathan administration...some of them asked for their operations to be legalized so that they augment shortfall in PMS from our refineries...but I am not sure government bought the idea... 3)Its a disastrous venture detrimental to environment, economy and lives... unfortunately just like armed robbery won't come to an end today... A little walk on internet will show you how many of those destroyed under Jonathan yet it never stopped... |

To be honest, the past administration dismantled many of these illegal refineries, so enough with the name calling. People conversant with ND should know, or better still, do some research. Robbery like corruption can be reduced but can never be eliminated completely. Kudos to the Nigerian Navy |

fr3do:I'm surprised @ d@...so how sensible should it be for a government to support and help promote crime....do you know the effect of adulterated fuels on engine....Lolzzzz....I fink we should all learn to make constructive and meaningful criticism .....bunkering and illegal refineries operation are illegal n against the constitution.....d@ there is high unemployment should not make the government resort to using crime as tool for development....blocking all loop holes is one of many ways of growing the economy and making it strong...hmmm |
