Salam Alaykun Brothers and Sisters in Islam,
I very worried about an attitude and I would like to know the Islamic judgement of it.
I live in a very far place and I work on Lagos Island. For me to get to work at the appropriate time (8am), I have to leave my house by 5:10am and once I get into the bus, I can only get to Island some between 8am - 8:30 depending on traffic situations. Because of this, I have always observe my Subhi prayer by 5am before leaving home. I cant afford to wait to get to work around 8:30am to observe it and I would like to know which of the options is allowed and if none is allowed in Islam, what are my options?
Ma Salaam

I also use to have the same predicament when I was working. Had to pray around 5am before leaving home. May Allah forgive our shortcomings and make us better Muslims.

Unfortunately brother, we cannot pray before its time!!! Though there are times when the time for Subhi would fall around 5am..... but what happens when subhi is not due till 5:40am? Praying subhi at 5:00am is not the best....
I dont envy you brother, you trial is no small one! However, here is where you have to make that decision of what/who is most important in your live. Is it your work + your bosses or your deen?
May Allah guide you and ease your affairs......

Hmm, we can't pray bs its tinme right? And here in naija it doesn't work to pray inside the bus. But I guess u cud still try praying sitting in the bus just perdrom ablution b4 leaving home.
Or u cud find another way of transportation that wud enable u pray on the journey. Or everytime u stop somwhere and pray first b4 taking anther bus to reach ur place of work.
* its not so easy changing jobs now...

Seconded, You just have to look for means to pray Subhi prayer, Instead of a bus from your house to your office, you can break it, take one to half maybe to Obalende having in mind that around that 5:40am you will be there pray, then take another bus.
Your might think that doing that might incur additional cost don't bother yourself about that. Once you are doing it sincerely Allah will sure reward/return the money you have spent in multiple folds. I just a matter of faith/ sincerity this is what i do whenever i had to go to Ajah for meeting twice a week
Don't bother to ask how.
May Allah guide us all right.

Is it possible for you to adjust your working hours so that you start an hour late and add the one hour at the end of the day? Some organizations are amenable to some degree of flexible working hours, especially where work is largely digital.
I suggest you discuss with your employers.

because i also have this similar problems of praying after 6am everyday due to office work and how to get their fast to offices due to traffics situations in lagos.

may almighty forgive our us.

I think you're allowed to pray inside the bus. Just do your ablution before leaving home and perform your prayer while in the bus (sitting position with full concentration of the mind).

That's wrong Saudi is 2hrs ahead of us & for every solar there is appointed time, can you say we should observe Magrib & break our fast same time with Saudi?
Op Solatul fajr ain't due until the al-fajr comes out, any solat observed before al-fajr is nawafil (tahajjud), the best thing you can do is adjust your timing, get to CMS arnd 6 & observe your solat better than observing it at 5.

I had the same experience just like yours. I leaved in Ikorodu and my place of work is in Victoria Island.

To me I do leave my house by 4:30 am and get to Victoria Island by 5:20 am to 5:40 am. Getting to Victoria Island depends on the time I could get to Agric bus stop to get a bus going to Victoria Island.

At first, I used to leave my house around 5am to 5:30 am. I had to adjust the time I leave the house just to meet up with subhi time in Victoria Island. While adjusting the time I leave the house I discovered that there are lots of people going to Victoria Island like me. Some going with their car or bus, picking passengers on the way. Thereafter, i discovered that there is someone that use to go to Victoria Island by 4:30 am to 4:45am, residing just opposite my street gate. Since then, I do join him to Victoria Island everyday.

Till now I still have the man's number.

My bother in Islam, i will advice you adjust your time as well. You might discover someone leave for Island where you work. You exchange number just to ensure he gives you a call when it is almost time or when he wakes up for preparation for work.

Observing subhi when the time is not ripe is not acceptable.

May Allah ease our affairs for us. Amin.

In Islam we are only allowed to pray all of the five obligatory salat at their stated times at our current specific location (not Saudi Arabia by default) we can only do use Saudi Arabia time only if we are in Saudi Arabia or if our current location have the same time zone as Saudi Arabia

Try much as possible to combine ur job with ur religion activities but don't let ur job to block u from ur religious activities.

My suggestion:Instead of two hours journey everyday, can't u rent an apartment at ur working place vicinity.

May Allah Guide us thru the right path.
Re: Solatul Subhi And My Work by marod(m): 12:06pm On Aug 21, 2015
Prayer offered before its time is not valid, according to the consensus of the Muslims. You can either adjust the time you leave home so that you would have been approaching the Island when it's time for Subhi or you perform ablution and pray in the bus when it's time but you will have to repray it immediately you can pray it properly. Allahu allam.
Re: Solatul Subhi And My Work by denigma2(m): 12:15pm On Aug 21, 2015
For the OP and those in similar predicaments
1. One of the major conditions for the acceptance of Solat is that it must be observed within its time range. Not before or after
2. Allah has made Islam so easy for us.
3. Unlike other faiths, prayers can be observed anywhere on earth (provided there is no proven presence of impurities)
4. You can always perform ablution before you leave home.
5. Endeavour to wear socks after ablution. By so doing you wont need to wash your feet again if you lose your ablution in transit.
6. Equip yourself with a praying mat, adhan alarm, a satchet/bottle of water and compass( most phones have it) when leaving the house
7. The Qiblah direction of Lagos is 63 degrees North.
8. When the time of Subh arrives, alight if you can or wait till the next bus stop.
9. Do a search for the nearest mosque if you can. You would be surprised that mosques are closer than you thought. If not, pray anywhere you deem convenient. It would still be relatively dark so no one may even notice you. Even if they do, it is not strange.
10. Anything you lose in terms of time or money will be fully recompensed by Allah

May Allah make this deen easy for us to practise

http://islamqa.info/en/107701
http://islamqa.info/en/20788

Praise be to Allaah.

Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Verily, As-Salaah (the prayer) is enjoined on the believers at fixed hours”

[al-Nisa’ 4:103]

We have already explained the times of prayer in detail in question no. 9940.

Prayer offered before its time is not valid, according to the consensus of the Muslims. If a person offers a prayer before its time:

- if he does that deliberately, then the prayer is invalid and he is not free of sin.

- If that was not done deliberately, and he did it because he thought that the time for prayer had begun, then it is not a sin, and his prayer is regarded as naafil, but he has to repeat it because one of the conditions of the prayer is that it be done at the right time.

Shaykh Muhammad ibn ‘Uthaymeen, in al-Sharh al-Mumti’, 2/88.

From all evidences, obligatory prayers should not be prayed before the prescribed time as every prayer has a period.

Peace!

U have this problem because you don't believe you have performed salat unless you stand facing Qibla, bow and prostrate on the ground. And this is borne out of our culture as Muslims. Too much emphasis is laid on form with little or non on substance.

As per Quran 2:239, you should pray while sitting in the bus if your ride must begin at 5:00 a.m. Alternatively, you may consider starting off as early as 4:30 a.m so that you can stop midway and and hold your salat before proceeding. In the long run, you might have to relocate closer to your place of work or get your personal vehicle.

Assalamualaikum I think I read somewhere that it is better to delay solat for an extra year than to perform it before it time... please make findings and don't just continue like that. Allah knows best.

Salam alaykum wa rahmatullah bro.

As a lot of the posters have said, it is fruitless observing solat before or after its time. So except for the occasions where the time for subh comes before 5AM, the brother is in a really difficult situation.

One solution proposed is for the brother to pray in the bus, however, how long do you want to continue like this. I would not feel comfortable with a situation like this personally if it is becoming the norm.

If it is not a staff bus, and there'll be stops to change buses along the way, then another solution presents itself, try and target bus stops where you'll be able to pray.

If you go with a staff bus, you can probably talk to the bus driver and reach an agreement whereby he stops for you at a convenient place for you to alight, while the bus continues its journey. Obviously, in this case you'll have to sacrifice the comfort of the staff bus and complete the last mile by yourself.

Also, if it's a staff bus and there are different routes and options, I'll suggest exploring some routes that leave later, so say your normal route is Berger and there is another touch point say in Oworonshoki, you can leave home maybe 15 mins earlier than you'll normally do and go by public transport to Oworonshoki, so that you'll be there earlier than the oworonshoki bus, pray and wait for that bus.

Think about the options, may Allah make it easy for you, and remember that as the prophet (SAW) taught us, the first thing we'll be asked about on the day of judgement is regarding solah.
