I think Confederalism would be the most beautiful way to reduce corruption and encourage economic diversity.

Ok...I'm a Bsc Political Science holder and actually my project topic then was "The Politics of Federalism and the challenge of Power Decentralization in Nigeria".As a political scientist, judgeing from the historical perspective since post independence, nothing has helped so far in terms of the quota system, issue of resource control etc.The military rule era has to be blamed on affectn true federalism in Nigeria till date ie Centralization of Power,Loss of autonomy by states, fiscal federalism and resource control. In recent times, corruption has eaten deep in the central more than the subordinate units.
With this few points,I hereby posit that CONFEDERALISM should be the best system of government in Nigeria to save us all from all these political cum economical quagmire.

In Africa, Confederalism would encouraged secession. We don't need tiny bits of nations scattered all over the continents.

The question should be answered by the Biafran protagonist , I believe it was one of them Aguiyi Ironsi to be precise that decided that Nigeria should go down the lane of Unitary government instead of the regional governance that allowed each region to grow at it's on pace. It's unbelievable any soul could be so deluded with the amount of intelligence of an average Biafran

They are back again after defeat of Jonathan Ebele at the 2015 polls to declare that Nigeria should return to federalism / regionalism or unless the rest of us will not breath in their so called Zoo. I presume they alone understand what the Zoo needs and when it's needed.

They should be allowed to have their way after all they are the most intelligent comparable only to the biblical Jews as the rest of us do not have functional brains to understand what we want and whenever we want it does not matter.

Giving you Biafra which is what you have always clamored for makes a lot of sense to me. I do not know about you.

Nigeria is not even a federal state, we are a UNITARY state where power is determined from the center.

All these clamoring for federalism or confederalism holds no water as long as most states are not economically viable. Apart from Lagos, no state can even pay its civil servants without allocation from Abuja, not to talk of money for other running costs or developmental projects

What Nigeria needs is a true federalism, like it is practised in the US. In the US, the states have autonomy to some extent. If confederalism is introduced, it would lead to the breaking away of some parts which would pose threat to peace in Africa.

I believe strongly that if and when power is giving over to each state or local government, then the need for them to wake up and strive to meet up their obligations would be intense and as such cause better utilisation of natural resourcse or human resources.

US aint Nigeria...Nigeria I know can never experience autonomy of states. It is always influenced and marred by the centre. It can't just work.

In the US, every state has its own constitution. States choose whether or not they want biecameral or unicameral legislature. They have their supreme courts. This was what took place in Nigeria upto the early 1960's. Confederalism cannot work in Nigeria.
