jf17
The jf-17 is decent, but relatively untested, has single engine and does not really have the endurance for long range strikes and total air coverage of a country of Nigeria's size without needing to refuel.
Anything worth doing is worth doing well.
Go for the the SU-30.

su30
Now this is the beast right here.
There is no reason why Nigeria should not possess by far the largest number of su-30s in the continent.
The need is obvious.

su30 is expensive to maintain
su27 upgraded version has almost similar capabilities the Russians are also adding up with it

The need of bombing Niger Delta communities that protest marginalisation and degradation of their community and environment abi?

lol
You give too much credit to Nigerian leaders if you expect them to understand this.
The same nitwits that were ordering for useless F-7 air guards, when the likes of angola, uganda, rwanda were getting su-30s and can carry out long range deep strike attack against Nigeria uninterrupted.
Chad currently has air superiority over Nigeria with their MIG-29 and SU-25s frogfoot interceptor.
Nigerian leaders don't know a thing about territorial integrity.
It befuddles the mind how a nation that depends on the sea for international oil transactions has no submarines nor a destroyer atleast, something relatively'' poorer ''countries like egypt and algeria already have for quite some time.
The niger-delta that should be one of the most secured places on earth, rigged with batteries of s-400 systems and a permanent SU-30 detachment of atleast two squadrons, is as defenceless as dodo against any serious military invasion.
Nigeria is a big joke.
I tell you my brother!,we need leaders!

oh well.
I have no arguments really.
It is more of the devil and the deep blue sea.
The niger-delta is a sitting duck for any foreign military incursion. Nigeria's most critical infrastructures are based in the niger-delta.

So it is meant to protect Nigerian territorial borders and the Niger Delta n people just as your Nigerian govt sold Bakassi to France?

The maintainance cost of the SU-30 is a direct consequence of its sophistication.
If Nigeria shy away from birds with high cost of maintainance, then forget 4G and forget the 21st century.
Btw, i don't buy that upgraded Bullshitt. Get the real thing and be done with it.

exactly what I thought.Let us scrap any plans to procure jf-17s,we should go for the russian yak-130 advanced trainer/ground attack aircraft; though relatively untested, the capabilities featured in the yak-130 can give any f16 a run for its money, the yak-130 is like a combination of an f16 and a jaguar, well suited for off-radar deep penetration, ground attack and surgical strikes.

yak-130 is subsonic.
The f-16 would eat it alive.

Currently,Nigeria has no airforce.
Until we have a fleet of not less than 150 advanced air superiority and ground attack aircrafts along with at least 10 advanced AWACS,then we should not even speak of being the "giant of africa".

And why do we need all these toys?

Our only problem is radical Islamic groups like ISWAP that do not have any air capabilities.

Even if we buy all the best fighter jets we can never match the capabilities of those nations that we bought from.

All we need is helicopter gunships, air transporters like C130 and subsonic air to ground fighter jets.

Perhaps.for such a tiny aircraft, the yak-130 can carry a large number of weapons, its endurance can also be boosted for long range strikes.

You think procuring fighter jets is like going to the toy market?

Diplomatic and Military ties determine to a large extent which jet to procure.

The Nigerian Airforce has strong ties to the British RAF while the Navy enjoys collaboration with that of the US navy and the army has close links to Pakistan.

All these put restrictions on what and who you can buy from.
