SporaD8:Don't mind them. There is alternative to diesel generator... like the LPG gas-powered ones, which are much cheaper to refuel. They have refused to use those ones. ![]() |

laudate:Like power plant retrofit, we: Decommission old ACDG and replace with new ACDGs. Swapout rectifier and ATS systems and install new DCDGs to replace the old ACDGs (where available) Swapout old battery cabinet and install a new one. Etc The type of power solution we put in place is the Solar Hybrid Systems. |

rman:if its not profitable why are MTN,GLO,AIRTEL and ETISALAT break even almost every year? Now they're even expected to be making more money on internet services as Nigerians are relying more and more on ecommerce more than ever before. |

rman:Puh-leeze! NITEL and MTEL did not fail because of high diesel cost! Please get your facts right. It was a combination of overbearing govt influence, poor management style, gross inefficiency, corruption and inability to compete with the new GSM companies that killed NITEL and MTEL. |

Consultville:How much is the impact of these telecom masts on the lives, health, property and the environment of Nigerians? The so-called promoting regulatory agency has failed in ensuring that the lives of citizens and the environment are taken into consideration before approvals to install base stations are granted. Both the NCC and NESREA (the authorised regulatory agencies for telecoms issues) are always at loggerheads and both DON'T have emissions detecting equipment to determine the levels of radiofrequency radiation being poured out on the heads and skins of Nigerians. As a result, many have died from health-related exposures, from collapsing masts in residential areas, from contaminated wells and boreholes, afflicted from immuno-deficiency ailments and diverse pathologies including cancers, internal organs failure, sterility, barrenness, et.c. The level of electromagnetic pollution as a result of indiscriminately located masts is scary. Yet, the operators are in denial as the truth doesn't sit well with the balance sheets. |

kaeforum:Bros, hold brake..! Haba! There is no single telco that imports bottled water from South Africa (SA). To do what, now?? ![]() There is tech transfer...to a certain level. Don't joke with our telecoms boys, oh. I remember as a very young corper when MTN was rolling out its base stations, they had thought it would take our local engineers about 12 months to learn GSM technology and grasp the rudiments of erecting towers/masts and setting up base stations. Omo, they were shocked when our engineers started installing base transceiver stations on their own, unsupervised within 3 months and those BTS sites were fully functional! ![]() Those white SA engineers used to marvel. One of the local teams was also mandated to get local alternatives to site equipment, which used to be imported. Within 8 months, about 65% of the equipment on the BTS sites was being fabricated locally or sourced in-country. When it comes to telecoms, we have local engineers that can hold their own with the best teams anywhere in the world! ![]() |

rman:Guy, then let them form a pressure group and approach govt directly on the amount of taxes being paid to the 3 levels of govt. This should be harmonised at one source! Secondly, they should deploy better and more advanced information security systems to get rid of hackers and cheats. Proper monitoring and surveillance can resolve this and they know it. The trick is always to be one step ahead, of the intruders. One of the reasons their profit is going down, is because most of the telcos enjoyed a 10-year tax-holiday pioneer status from inception, which came to an end about 2-3 years ago. Instead of them to have made provision for the tax liability from inception, they failed to do so. And now they are bearing the brunt! ![]() All said and done, they are still making money from Nigerian subscribers despite the poor services. Their profit still outweighs the expenses they have incurred. ![]() The reason why wages and co., in the telecom companies are dropping is varied. One of them is that the telcos do not want anything to affect their pre-defined profit margin, so they would rather reduce wages and other expenses. ![]() Secondly, inflation has caught up in a big way with what the purchasing power of those earning those wages. What 100k used to buy in the past, 350k cannot buy it anymore these days. ![]() |
