My brother the level of IGNORANCE and straight out semi-illiteracy among a lot of Nigerians is truly staggering.

I challenge people to go and compare both Bill Clinton and Obama when they were fist elected. In both cases (1992 and 2008) the US economy was in trouble, during the elections both man put forward their DETAILED economic plans and once they were sworn in they got down to work implementing those plans. During the elections the plans were debated extensively and everybody know the direction that would be followed.
It is clear Buhari has no such plan. In almost three months he has not found it necessary to even convene an economic summit, to bring together talent from business, industry and finance to help give input on the way forward.
Nobody is saying don't fight corruption, but corruption is not the ONLY issue the country is facing.
Obama had to deal with an economy on the verge of collapse, two wars going wrong in Iraq and Afghanistan and the ever present threat of terror on the homeland, as well as fight to keep his promise of health care reform. He focused on ALL of them at the same time and moved forward on all. Multi tasking is what a President does!

Buhari is displaying a worrying aloofness on the economy. All the forecasts are for the price of oil to remain subdued through 2016, he needs to put together an economic team without delay and start to fashion out policies to deal with the coming economic crash.
Quit this rhetoric. Where you sleeping when Buhari set up the economic council? Even if you were, have you not woken up since then to hear the news??

Buhari Sets Up Economic Council, Pledges To Be Transparent

President Muhammadu Buhari has inaugurated the National Economic Council (NEC), with a pledge to ensure accountability, transparency and integrity in the distribution of funds in the Federation Account.

They are made up of the 36 State Governors, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and Permanent Secretaries for the key ministries that have something to do with the economy.

At the inauguration ceremony on Monday, President Buhari insisted that all revenues from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Nigerian Customs Service, Federal Inland Revenue Service, Nigerian Ports Authority, Central Bank of Nigeria, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety and the Liquefied Natural Gas, among others should be remitted into the Consolidated Revenue fund.

The President reminded the council members of issues and challenges facing the oil-rich nation, from insecurity to unemployment, corruption power shortages and his commitment to be visionary in order to surmount the challenges.

He made reference to remittances to the Federation Account by government agencies and pledged to ensure accountability and transparency in the distribution of funds from the Federation account.

President Buhari also pledged to abide by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He pledged his renewed commitment to the fight against the Boko Haram terrorists, urging front line states to articulate assessment of the destructions in their states for submission to the G7, which had requested for the document.

The Nigerian President further reiterated his high expectations from the National Economic Council.

Liquidating Unpaid Salaries

Addressing the Governors, President Buhari urged them to, as a matter of urgency, explore efficient means of liquidating all unpaid salaries of staff, which have brought untold hardship to thousands of families.

He said there was the need for states to cooperate closely on projects such as interstate and feeder roads, soil erosion, desertification and other developmental programmes.

President Buhari also urged them to separate politics from development programmes.

The NEC serves as an advisory body to the President on economic matters and is made of the 36 State Governors and select members of the Federal Executive Council.

According to tradition, the council is expected to be chaired by the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.

With Ministers yet to be appointed, the Permanent Secretaries of some ministries such as finance, and national planning as well as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria were at the inauguration.

The council will draw up the economic blue print for the current administration.

What we have before is cosmetic growth, where few people are growing at the detriment of majority. The same few are the one complaining mostly about the staunted growth because some of the policy been put in place to ensure accountability and equity by PMB is pinching them, they want to continue fleecing the country wealth.
It is expected but with time it will go

Your ignorance is first class.
Economic Council is a statutory body that is chaired by VP with all governors as members.
It does not formulate economic policies. Further more, absence of Min. of Finance and Min. of National Planning makes
their deliberation a mere talk show. All they do in Economic Council is to deliberate on how to share money that come to Federation account, while the FAAC meeting is to collect the money.

An economic council is not the same as a an emergency economic forum, where you would bring in brains form within and outside the country to brainstorm on the way forward and at the end present CONCRETE recommendations for the govt to take forward.
Please get it through your brain, Nigeria is BROKE. When state govts can't pay salaries but for the dividends from NLNG, that is a very worrisome sign. The nation is an economic emergency and yet after almost 3 months in office we don't have any clue on what the govts economic approach will be. I am sure you are aware of how much the Niara has lost value this year. Do you know international analysts are predicting another 30% decline in the Niara by middle of next year?
Look this is not the time of blind support of anybody. The coming economic downturn will be very serve and trust me if your great Buhari is not seen to be doing something about, many of the people cheering him today will be the ones causing him tomorrow. As Bill Clinton and his team used to say in the 1992 election 'It's the Economy Stupid!'

@Post: What would one expect when a country vehemently refused to diversify her economy over decades, depending solely on oil, the price of which is below $40 per barrel today? I don't see the "shocker" here. As international oil price goes, so goes the Nigerian economy- simple.[/s]

How would they look for where to borrow money when the government is saving and recovering looted funds presently.
They have not engaged in any project yet. This is how the economy will look when you import ordinary toothpick.

With time things will turn out good.

Don't mind them, by the time they start looking for where to borrow money it would become real to them and too late

When the GDP peaked, the price of crude was on the average of $105 per barrel.

You should know Nigeria depends solely on oil and ofcourse you know the cost of crude oil per barrel now.

The GDP will rise again.
