Any Difference Between Notebook, Netbook, Ultrabook, Probook And Laptop? by Nobody: 7:43am On Aug 28, 2015
For a while now I have been surfing the net to see if I can get a very good, brand new laptop for myself with a low budget,at least if I can get a brand new HP system with:

-Intel core i5(i7 isn't bad too)
-8GB RAM
-1TB HDD
And which won't cost more than #130K.

NB: I specified HP because they said it is the best, they said Dell don't have a good wireless laptop, they said Toshiba is always heating while using it, they said Lenovo isn't that repairable, they said Acer and Asus are just "mogbo mowa" I.e an opportunitist. Is this true? Is HP the best?

While trying to find out,I started discovering somethings I'm not exposed to before,I got to know that their are different types of system; Notebook, Netbook, Probook, Ultrabook and the Laptop itself,I tried to get the difference but the more info I get,the more confused I'm and that's why I have come here.

Can anybody please differentiate between Laptop, Notebook, Netbook, Probook and Ultrabook?

Also, while searching,I got some systems that suits me well but unfortunately, its either they are Convertible(I think can be used as a tablet and as a system) or they are Touchscreen.

Now the question here is do HP System that are either Convertible or Touchscreen have any fault later on? I know nothing goes on for life but will you advice that I get a Convertible/Touchscreen system?

As for me all I want is a laptop that suits the above specs and must also have an inbuilt CD Player(Cos I think one of notebook, ultrabook, netbook or probook don't use to have).I'm a CSE student presently in 100Level,I want to get the system in preparation for my 200Level,I don't want to know theory alone,I need the practicals too.

I'm sorry my questions might be much but below is the summary;

-Is HP truly the best system as for now?

-Any difference among Notebook, Netbook, Probook, Ultrabook and Laptop?

-Is it advice able to buy a Convertible and/or a Touchscreen system? Do they develop any fault at the long run?

-Can you suggest any system that will suit my specification and my budget?

Answer to the above question will save my MB a little bit more.
Thanks in advance.

I have used Dell Laptops all through, and never had any problems with wireless connectivity.
Laptops - Bigger plus cd/dvd drives
Ultrabooks/notebooks/netbooks - Small, portable and deluxe, with no cd/dvd drives.

Wao,thanks for this.
What's your advice about getting a convertible or touchscreen laptop? Do they develop fault later on? And for the convertible,do they also have CD/DVD drive?

Ultrabook: an ultra-portable notebook computer specification and brand trademarked by Intel. Runs Microsoft Windows. Available from many different manufacturers, including Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, LG, Samsung, and Toshiba.

ProBook:
ProBooks are an HP specific product. Just like Lenovo's "ThinkPad" this is just a brand name for a category of laptops that are generally marketed for business purposes. They run Windows and like Ultrabooks, use full up software suites.

Netbook: Designed to be small and lightweight Netbooks generally have a screen size between 7” – 13” and weigh less than 1kg, they also tend to have a longer battery life between 4 – 10 hours. Netbooks are powerful enough to browse the internet and complete basic tasks such are using Microsoft Office programmes and also have sufficient hard drives for data storage with most coming with 160GB.
Netbook's don’t come with a DVD Drive built in so you’ll need to use memory sticks or buy an external drive if you need to use DVD’s. Also the keyboards can be too small for some people so look out for ones with full size keyboards to give you extra comfort.

Notebook: A notebook is an extremely lightweight personal computer. In terms of computing power, modern notebook computers are nearly equivalent to personal computers. They have the same CPUs, memory capacity and disk drives.
Notebook computers come with battery packs that enable you to run them without plugging them in. However, the batteries need to be recharged every few hours.

You can either go for any of these brands; HP, DELL or Toshiba.

How a system last depends on the user sometimes but all the brands mentioned above are okay.

Thanks so much for this info,I appreciate it. Please what's your take on the convertible and touchscreen laptops,is it adviceable to get them? Do they develop any fault later on?

My personal perception about touchscreen and convertible portable devices. The simply have more things to go wrong.
I prefer old technology non touchscreens, I am old school!!!

Me too,I prefer the normal laptop,I don't wana start running around cos of 1 touch or so not working, and I don't think the convertible will have its own CD/DVD drive,so its a no no for me too.

But I'm only considering them cos I'v seen some that suits my specs as above,if I can get a laptop that comes with that specification I will definitely go for it but if not, maybe I will have to go for the touchscreen.

Simply look for 4GB ram and above, if you don't intend playing games or high graphics use. An i5 would serve you well.

Alright sir, thanks so much.

Personally, I prefer touchscreen laptops to convertibles. I don't see anything wrong with a touchscreen laptops. But am not saying nothing can go wrong.

You can liken a touchscreen laptop to your smart phone....

My advise to you as a computer student is to concentrate more on RAM Size, Hard Disk Space and Processor Speed the higher they are the better for you.

I understand this but for now I can't afford more than an 8GB RAM,1TB HDD and at least Intel core i5 because my budget for it is just #130k. Or can I get something better with that amount?

Oga, u just mentioned u are a student of CSE bt u've nt really stated what specific purpose u'll need d stuff for. Every poster b4 me was only speculating gaming or whatever..... Bt are u really buying for gaming? For multimedia? Educational/project purpose?

And by dis your post I quoted above, are u regretting even 8gb ram wl nt suffice u? Do u really know d power of 8gb ram, core i5, etc? Brand new or used? Brodaman, for whatever purpose u are buying dis stuff, I think d spec shld be suitable for u.

Wt dat budget u can get gd hp. Get a notebook and save d stress of carrying additional load in d name of ext cd/dvd drive For instance, I use hp elitebook and I think it suits me: I do editing work and general office runs. However, bulk of my work doesnt even reside in d inbuilt hdd, I hv them backup wt ext hdd.

Btw, if u are in Lagos, u can talk to donline or so (search for his moniker) or read thru his ads, he deals in guaranteed brand new lappies bt much moreso, he's trust worthy.

Thanks so much for your contribution sir,I so much appreciate it,but I stated what I need the laptop for when I wrote in my main post that "I don't want to know theory alone,I need the practicals too."
By this I mean I will like to learn programming starting from 200Level.

In getting information about the system that will be very okay for programming was when I decided to settle for the stated specs,I got the idea also here on nairaland.

About "donline" you talked about,I couldn't get any info about him cos I don't really know much about him,I searched both on nairaland and google but I didn't get something concrete.
