Thanks bro, the case has long been settled though.

Well, didn't know that. All i saw were several attempts to solve the problem with combination.

Guys, I've been a bit busy out of here. Hence my frequent absence. However i have an idea i think we should all talk about.
With this combined knowledge and effort at helping people solve problems, creating maths problems, and encouraging discourse, wouldn't it be nice to take this to a completely different platform and create some kind of "online business" out of it? Just wondering...

agentofchange1, Seamione, dejt4u, Karmanaut, jackpot, and others I've failed to mention.

1) A uniform half-meter bar AB is balanced horizontally across a knife-edge placed 15cm from point A. A mass of 30kg is hang at the end of A. What is the weight of the bar?
I got 450N, pls help me verify it.

ans= 75kg or 750N.

And other Mathematics generalismo. Please help a brother out:

1. Convert 10.312510 to binary number

2. Convert 0.12510 to base 4

3. Convert the angle 164o49'13" to decimal degree format.

4. If line y=2x-1 meets the y-axis at B, what is the coordinate of B?

5. Verify that x2+y2-4x-6y+9=0 represents a circle by finding its radius.

6. If m1 and m2 are gradients of two straight lines, then the angle between the lines are?

7. If t=kx/square root of y, find the percentage change in t if x increases by 12% and y decreases by 36%.

8. If y=2x2, find the approximate increase in y when x increases from 2 to 2.002

9. The radius of a circular disc is increasing at the rate of 0.5cm/sec, at what rate is the area A of the disc increasing when its radius is 4cm?

10. Find the equation of the circle whose centre is the same as that of the circle x2+y2-6x+2y+4=0 and which passes through the point (7,4)

Pls, I still have few left. Please, help me please I beg you.
Re: Nairaland Mathematics Clinic by Nobody: 9:20pm On Sep 02, 2015
@Umartins1.
Solution to some attached.
If you do not understand questions 1 and 2 there's an example here

Re: Nairaland Mathematics Clinic by Nobody: 9:37pm On Sep 02, 2015
For question 6:
The angle between two lines given their gradients as m1 and m2 respectively is given as:
θ = tan-1 |{m 1 - m 2 } / (1 + m 1 × m 2 )|

There is another formula which involves finding vectors on the lines and using their dot products but it isn't required here since we're using their gradients.
Re: Nairaland Mathematics Clinic by Nobody: 9:54pm On Sep 02, 2015
@Umartins1
Number 4:
The [y -intercept] is the point where the line crosses the y-axis.
To find the y-intercept, we substitute 0 for x in the equation, because we know that every point on the y -axis has an x -coordinate of 0. Once we do that, we can solve to find the value of y . When we make x = 0, the equation becomes y=-1

Therefore the co-ordinates of B = (0, -1)

7) I got 2. By directly substituting the percentages for the respective variables.
Don't know if it's correct-- or even legal.

2) A student want to compare the performance of an old spring-scale with a new one. He placed the scales at the end of a 2m long uniform horizontal bar of mass 4kg. If both scales are in good working condition, what should be their readings?

Thanks in anticipation.

Solution to question 10 attached.
It's left for you to write the answer in linear form if you so wish.
Cheers.

4. Coordinate of B is (0, -1)

You said it strikes y-axis at B, well the whole of y-axis is at x=0, so just put zero in your equation and voila!

Not exactly. Creating some kind of tutoring website where content can be delivered for free, and discourse especially encouraged. I'm not business-minded, but I assume there's some way profit can be reined in from this. That can be taken care of by another person who is intelligent enough to see a business side to this. The point is, all the activities happening here for free and which is volunteer-like is a good one, but could probably be done more positively towards an even greater benefit.
Agentofchange1, I'd suppose that should probably be done outside of Nairaland. I'd suppose...

Trust me, there's a lot of impact to be made here, especially as Education is one big challenge in Africa.

I need help with the following...

1. A chemist has a 20% and 40% acid solutions. What amount of each solution should be used in order to make 300ml of a 28% acid solution. [I got 180ml and 120ml. Am I correct?]

2. The proportion of milk and water in 3 samples is 2:1, 3:2 and 5:3. A mixture comprising equal quantities of all 3 samples is made. What is the proportion of milk and water in the mixture?
