It's abnormal to see such level of degradation and filth so close to millionaires but this is Nigeria where very few people think beyond their immediate comfort and happiness.

I was in Owerri last week, and wasn't particularly impressed with the environment around the outskirts of the capital, Eziobodo and Umuchima areas around FUTO. Filth. Degradation.

It's the same here in PH. Millionaires living in the midst of filth and obnoxious odour. It's the same sad story everywhere.

How do you rate a society that must be shut down for 3 hours once a Saturday every month for environmental sanitation? You can hardly bane the locals. Blame the leaders who have refused to lead with wisdom and vision. I forgot that the leaders came ffom the general society!

All these mansions costing millions of dollars to build and yet to tar and maintain a decent good road is hard for us! Of course the government should do it! In this part of the world, we see our leaders as celebrities and demi gods without even knowing that they too can die! Meaning that they are human after all!

In the second pix, you can see an average neighborhood in America. No houses built with stolen millions. But just look at the neighborhood. Can't you just imagine sleeping there.... Just on the main road! I dont mind oo. From my location in Lagos, I can actually feel the serenity, divinity and coolness of this environment. Imagine writing a movie, reading a novel or carrying out a research in this serene environment. Wont you fell blessed?

I've always wondered why we (Nigerians) are this way. I was in Guangzhou (china) in 2008 prior to the Beijing Olympic games. Many Africans were living in peace, no much issues with the local police. Then we (Nigerians) imported our "agbero" mentality.

The jobless and undocumented Nigerians formed local cults to harass fellow Nigerians. They started robbing.. They took this nuisance to a height that the police form a squad to arrest and deport blacks. Many blacks from other African countries were affected.

We really have to change our attitude to life. We are spoiling it for all others.

Pitiable. I must say that my people deserve praise. I think about two people or so, built the roads we've been enjoying in my village for over 16 years now. Even the gate that led into my village was built by an individual. These men never waited for govt to come build their roads for them. Surprisingly, most men from village spend not more than 3weeks in their village mansions pa year.

If all wealthy men can contribute something to this economy, I believe the burden will be less on the masses (note, I mentioned masses rather than govt cuz the govt don't deserve any freaking help)...

Returning from Cotonou to Lagos, I saw this display fridge caged and locked. This is at a petrol station. It says a lot about us, our society.

The problem is not leadership, the problem lies with supporters and supporters unwillingness to look beyond selfish allegiances (such as tribal groupings and relational and clannish favoritism) and instant gratification in favor of their children's welfare in a secure tomorrow..


Beyond the above, childish jealousy and envy is the bane of Africa. Nigeria thankfully suffers less from this than many other African Nations. We have hope.
